Struggling to motivate Fennel...

This is definitely my hardest project bird in a while. I've tried safflower seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts, pine nuts, almonds, cashews... this time I give sweet potato a try and it doesn't seem to make a difference either! But then I finally find something that seems to peek her interest.

Is that a screened in porch?

It is hilarious to see Jamie wait through fennels brutally long eating

Do you think maybe because she is so young she hasn't been introduced to any treats so she doesn't recognize them. I know so many breeders will give millet first thing. I had to introduce my Ringneck to treats so he would take a variety of treats. He only knew what millet was when I first brought him home.

I can identify with this. Cuckoo sometimes gets super motivated by pomegranate seeds, those are actually the only treat she trains for lol

Lara

Fennel acts like an apathetic teenager. She was practically rolling her little bird eyes about the training. Great job on patience and persistence with her!

Holden Kendrick

Lol you have the patience of a saint!

You can try training her with her seasonal-feeding meals. Make her work for her breakfast/dinner, using a spoon to deliver the reinforcer.

I laughed all the way through this video, it just reminds me of those wonderful days I had my eclectus pair. I always have said my female was my dinosaur, even my tortoise moved faster than she did except when she struck, then watch out. But with my girl I found it was relationship, relationship, relationship. I didn't really try to train her to do a lot of things because she always stepped up readily. But it is a real joy to watch you train her!

Maybe she was a parakeet in her last lifetime?
