Q&A part 2 with Patty

So ideally you use a pellet because of the minerals it provides but if the ingredients are so bad it’s not worth it then we’ve had people in other countries use the seasonal feeding solo successfully and just get bloodwork done every six months instead of once a year to ensure the bird doesn’t require any changes or supplements to the diet. You may need to add those because of the lack of pellet - it just depends on your bloodwork results. Sweet potato or old fashioned oats just add a little diversity and help the poops be less watery than an entirely wet diet.

Huh interesting! So SFS twice a day can work? Two seasons, twice a day, one can have sweet potato mash and oats (what kind of oats?) in it, one is just the good-regular SFS recipe for that season. What is the purpose of the sweet potato and oats? would you still serve some pellets with that diet? (I am considering the Nutribird we feed like multivitamin gummies, and my African Grey will train for them, and I feel like vets will want to slap me if I don’t feed pellets lol, do they even have that much of a nutritious value in them?), I am intrigued that the SFS works by itself and has all that parrots need, that is incredible. those are so many questions, I hope it’s okay, I don’t know if Patreon is the right platform to ask all my questions, is it?

Most of our clients in places that cannot get our pellets just feed our SFS twice a day. The second serving might be with some oats, or some cooked sweet potato or it may be another season entirely to add variety. As long as you plan to get bloodwork twice a year instead of once when doing this, we've had clients be successful with this method as you can always add supplements or add things your vet recommends to keep the bloodwork looking good. I would not randomly add herbs or seeds to the overall diet. Seeds/nuts are for training and interactions so you'd lose value and give a source of fat for free, and herbs are very specific.

I was the one with the birdie bread question, patty answers pretty clearly that it wouldn’t work, I don’t usually watch Mikey And Mia’s channel, but they’ve been making a video about their new diet, they use freeze dried herb and seed blend, I am suspicious about the benefits of it versus a store-bought fruity pellet, and versus quality pellets, it inspired me to ask this anyway - could a dry homemade blend made of quality ingredients be better than feeding a store-bought fruity pellets? Does Patty works with clients over email? I would love to figure out what I can do.

One of my favorite parts about these videos is the relationship between you and Patti! You both are very loving and adorable. You make me smile! The birds are added bonuses as well as the content and knowledge you share!
