Yes for both reasons. ๐Ÿ˜

Hi. Question: do you make your chop tiny so that itโ€™s easier to portion, harder for the birds to be picky, or??? and do the birds need to eat things that they use their feet to hold or do they get enough to feet holding when foraging and playing? Curious because I have been going back and forth with texture and mix it up so they are not bored but life would be easier if it was all tiny and mixed. Thanks.

I have a small flock who only like the chop fresh. I make a 1/4 batch every 3 days. My chickens get any excess. As Patty said, I've been really mindful of freshness. I've started growing a lot of the ingredients in raised garden beds in the backyard. It has been great. I've reduced the wastage as vegies were expiring in the fridge before they would get used up (small flock!). Now I pick them fresh before making every batch. Broccoli and kale have been particularly good. It just keeps producing! It just takes a bit of planning to sow at the right time.

Try getting our freeze dried. When rehydrated it's the same taste as fresh. It's available to my Rocko+ patrons, or available publicly June 20.

Hi, how about feeding small amounts of fresh nettles to your birds? Are they too high in iron or are they ok? We've got lots of nice small nettles right now. The small ones doesn't sting yet either ๐Ÿ˜ thanks for the video, just love watching and hearing you and Patty chatting about, always learns new stuff

My sun conure tends to only eat the chop that hasn't been frozen so I'm at a loss. I can't make fresh chop every few days....๐Ÿ˜ฃ

What does your conure like to eat? I found that my mini macaw was very hesitant to try chop, so I started mixing it with the seed diet she came to me on (got her in February). She was pretty good at picking out the seeds, but she eventually did start eating some of the chop. Then she stopped -- so I added less than a gram of seed back to the mix each morning, which helped. I just made the summer diet yesterday (all the ingredients were easy to find where I am), and she seems more interested in these flavors! But I am sure she will at some point "regress" a little, so we take it day by day. And personally, I don't know what Dave is talking about, because I love chop making day -- it smells so good and fresh! Are you weighing your bird daily? I found that is really key in diet conversion, especially for smaller conure-sized birds.

I have a 3 month old conure. The day I got him I made him chop. I then found your YouTube channel. I made him the winter to summer chop. He loves veggies, I'm just having a hard time getting him to eat everything. I saw a video with Fennel (I think is her name lol) and you put blueberries in the chop to entice her. I also did the yams too...I need help. ๐Ÿ˜ญ I'm trying, and I'M NOT GIVING UP ..lol but, I need some ideas... Have a mention, he's my first parrot! So, I feel like a duck out of water, nothing to compare what he's doing to something else, cause he's my first! I have chickens, I don't remember it being this hard...lol, but, our memories tend to romanticize the past! I was probably crying and feeling lost then too! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ Help... Please ๐Ÿฅบ.... ohh, one more thing... I'm completely and totally DEDICATED to you guys, so you won't get ANY push back from me! Tell me what to do, and I'll do it! Cause I honestly don't know what I'm doing! ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

Each bag lasts me about 3 days with my flock.

BirdTricks

How long will this batch you made last you? I only have one green cheeked conure and I accidentally just made a 6 months supply, whoops! ๐Ÿ˜‚

My girlfriend raises organic meat chickens, and if one dies or is attacked by a fox or like that, she puts the carcass out to "ripen" and her chickens eat the maggots. Because she is certified organic, she can't use antibiotics, so she uses Pau DeArco and naturals like that to treat any issues. When she first got her chickens she went from having grasshoppers, and many other bugs to having virtually, none in a week! I personally, loved having chickens! Turned them out in the morning and they came to roost all by themselves at night. I only lost one to the neighbors dog. I will try some of the tips in my continuing saga of converting my Goffins to a raw diet. Thanks so much! C U next time. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜

Though the sfs actually tastes good I would definitely recommend giving it a go in a family dinner with olive oil, lemon and salt pepper, maybe thyme and croutons? Yum

Guy Goldstein K

My African grey only eats half batch each season, one can cut the proportions in half and than cut the half in half and youโ€™ll have a 1/4th batch. I find it technically easier lols

Thanks for posting this. I wasn't able to make it and was so glad to be able to listen in. To the person who asked about feeding a single budgie: I only have 1 mini macaw who can't eat the whole recipe. Even so I actually make a little more of the recipe. I give some to my father to give to his dog. So healthy for dogs too and at least that dog gobbles it up. Then I make a "salad" dish for the family from a big portion of it. Add some salt, olive oil, a little feta or goat cheese. So delicious you won't believe it and if course crazy healthy. Since I eat it myself I do peel veggies and cook things like the quinoa or millet. ๐Ÿ’š

This was great! I got most of my questions about the sfs answered ๐Ÿงก
