2022-05-10 17:11:37 +0000 UTCAlthough she will step up and she understands target training, my macaw does not like to be touched anywhere. She did recently offer a behavior that I have "captured" (shaking hands, with my finger and one foot), but other than her feet, she does not trust any touch. I have been trying to teach her to accept touch, by pairing the term "pet" with touching the back of her head while she is taking a treat. I have gotten to the point of giving her a quick scratch on the back of her neck while she is busy grabbing the treat, but I wonder if not fully giving her the treat until I am done with "pet" is a bad thing. If she does not have the treat partially in her beak, she does try to wiggle away or nip at the hand I am touching with... This is a timely training session for me!
