Hey CJ! Hopefully this blog posts has some helpful tips: https://birdtricksstore.com/blogs/birdtricks-blog/natural-bird-safe-pest-remedies?_pos=1&_sid=042858a76&_ss=r

okay so i have been having issues with moths getting to the food recently we have been freezing their old seed mix until we need it do i need to do that with their new seed mix it would be great to know and i do know that moths decrease the nutritional value of the food

CJ

Yeah. I think any way to get him close by is great. Sometimes I have my birds on the scale to be close.

BirdTricks

Yeah, some great suggestions in the comments for sure!

BirdTricks

Great idea!

BirdTricks

Too funny how common it is for tiels!

BirdTricks

I'm feeding wet, dry is a great suggestion!

BirdTricks

Sprouted seeds is such a great idea!

BirdTricks

Really? Gonna write this down in my notes. My African Grey favorites his sprouts, so it makes lots of sense. Thatโ€™s dope because theyโ€™re also very nutritious I bet one can also sprout grains for introducing fresh foods as well! (I have actually replace some of the cooked grains in my chops and SFS with the grains sprouted instead, very nutritious.)

I love how you make your food making day a full on culinary festival for birds, I am definitely going to incorporate my bird in making food. I donโ€™t have a counter island like yours though, would it be as good to have him on a T stand by my side or perhaps even in his cage by my side?

My cocktail hates mornings! She's actually a night owl like me. Lol she sleeps morning to late afternoon, then becomes super active after her dinner (which is breakfast to her) I actually have her light altered now to what she likes. It comes on at 2 pm and goes off at 2am. Her training is around midnight! Her choice also. I'm converting her to Birdtricks' cockatiel mix, but I keep her birdtricks' pellets and her old Zupreem natural bowl full at all times. Recently in the last two days I have seen the Birdtricks' pellets missing and dust left. I'm so relieved after seeing her at her pellet bowl frequently now. Her diet before I rescued her was only Finch seed. So it has been a struggle. She still absolutely refuses fresh food, but after reading posts I'm going to order some freeze dried and try that. I have noticed she loves crunchy food over wet soft food.

Can't wait to see the introduction of fresh food, you can really use his destructiveness to your advantage with whole vegetables. That's how I got my cockatiels to like vegetables because they enjoyed destroying and crunching them whole.

Julia Atkinson

Mine too! He still is the same way.

Holly Honish

It's funny that the cockatiel I had was not a morning bird either. He loved sleeping late and was always cranky in the morning.

Megan's suggestion is great! How I got my teil to eat sprouts was sprouting wheat berries. He went for them without hesitation. Also, are you feeding the seasonal feeding wet or dry? I had to use freeze dried veggies to get my tiel interested in fresh foods because he hated anything wet and squishy. Then, I slowly began to add moisture to whatever veggies I was feeding him (then your freeze dried came out 2 years later lol). When I first offered the fresh seasonal feeding, I had to squeeze the life out of it with a paper towel. Now, he eats it normal.

Holly Honish

Oh I love budgies. Such audacity. That is exactly how my budgie acts with my cockatiel. Constantly wants to be friends and Putin is like 'heck no, keep your distance blue, fast thing'. I found sprouted seeds were a game changer when offering fresh food.

Blueberry has the cutest personality. No fear!๐Ÿคฃ

Wendy Cottingham

Oh Clyde. Such big attitude for such a little bird! Same for Blueberry! Lol
