That's a wonderful idea! Thank you!

Aw, that is so cool! You should consider applying for their workshop they do to get to know the staff and build those connections!

I am so jelly that you got to work with the head of the macaw show at Disney!!! That's my dream job, and I am currently applying for a keeper position there for the birds!

So typically the parents raise them to a specific age and then they’re booted so I think when they’re parent raised, they switch to human interaction when the parents deem it time vs being taken away from their flock as the perception. But they’re fully Flighted by then.

My general un-knowledgeable assumption is that usually babies do their best in life having healthy childhood with their parents, I think it is hard to replicate what parrot parents do for their babies in order to grow more resilient offspring- that they probably know best and intuitively understand how to fill the gaps that we can’t fill while raising other species. I’d also like to think that parrots knows best what it is to be a parrot and that they contain data of deep valuable memories about being a parrot and navigating life as a parrot (I don’t know if my fun theory has anything to do with reality, nor does it answer your question hahaha, but your comment made me think about that and I enjoyed playing with this idea in my head). I don’t know if parrot raised parrot babies will be as pet, if it’s a humane thing to do (let them be raised by loving flock members only for being separated from them afterwards), but I’d like to think that if someone was passionate enough to adapt the way they breed and raised their birds, and gave a lot of time into preparation for homing parent raised, it might actually create more emotionally healthy and resilient pet parrots, it can potentially go in so many directions (better and worse)

I love hearing about this experience! Dave made an interesting comment about parent raised vs hand reared birds. Parent raised seems more ideal for the bird's psychological health, but how much does the pet quality suffer, if at all? The breeder I used leaves babies with their parents for at least a few days, maybe longer, but they do get pulled when they are still pretty bald. I'm not sure if they get further parent interaction afterwards but guessing not. It would seem that the only benefit to this short parent raising would be to transfer gut flora from parent to baby. I suppose I should ask him about his method rather than theorizing. It's still interesting knowing what scientists have learned about the importance of gut flora in humans.

Thank you both for sharing your experiences. I find your experiences fascinating.

Look at you Jaimeleigh, kicking negative inner thought's butt! And Dave, a crow is your favorite time there? Is that some symbolism we should be looking into? 😂 LOVE IT!!
