Anything with pasta and birds is usually a hit, but we have to be careful about not carb-loading our birds. However, using carbs to get our birds to eat healthy is A-OK in my book! Whenever you are using less than ideal foods with intention, we are doing good stuff.
A great change for this recipe is simply using whole wheat penne pasta and slicing them down the middle to stuff them or cutting them shorter so they're easier to stuff.
Using pasta as a vessel for healthy foods is almost always a win. Another tactic is wetting the pasta slightly so that other foods will stick to it and sprinkling those finely chopped foods on top or rolling the pasta in them. You could do this with broccoli and herbs or anything that you can get really fine where it's harder to pick out. Another fun tactic is soaking the pasta in beet juice to soak up some of those nutrients and flavor.
Using food as the vessel to serve more food is always a fun tactic!
