They are so adorable and they definitely have the potential for all the cool things y'all do! Love watching and learning just as much as the birds do.

2023-07-17 00:35:33 +0000 UTCZip and Zoom actually arrived to the house around 5pm and our lights/timer go off at 6:30pm so I made the decision to interact with them EVEN THOUGH I knew I had verrrrry limited time. That's not usually a great idea because then we feel rushed and we tend to rush the animal too. So in my mind when interacting with them, I wanted to make as much progress as possible so that I would be able to transport them to their aviary before the timer went off. So that's why I think you saw me pushing for a step up from them both is because I knew I had this window of opportunity (when first interacting after such a long day they had with driving and flights etc.) that I could show them I meant well and there would be lots of rewards coming from me. I also knew Kim had not been able to weigh them in her care other than their vet visit so I felt like it was more important to get those initial weights on them to ensure they were still in healthy ranges after what was likely a stressful travel day for them. Ultimately, your suggestion is super valid and an awesome idea to establish a little more common ground before just going in for it - and some birds I likely would have not had this approach with but something felt OK about it with Zip and Zoom. Something about their demeanor seemed like they'd come around quickly.

2023-07-16 23:56:17 +0000 UTCI learn so much every video! I don’t even have a bird, but I hope to in the future. I’m curious what made you go right to the step up with Zip when she was not really wanting to. In this case why didn’t you back off to target training instead? I’m guessing you had some information I missed or you didn’t mention that led you to do that. It just seemed uncharacteristic for you when you work with new birds. I’m excited for this series! Thanks so much for sharing your day one!
