Zip has a new hatred...

This is something I'm going to have to constantly be aware of and work on so that I'm not encouraging only right-handed behaviors on my end.

Zip has a new hatred...

Maybe she is afraid of the jewelry on your left hand or just doesn't like it. Although it looks like she is awkward about stepping onto the left hand. Still could be rooted in a fear or dislike of jewelry. Most people wear their jewelry on the left hand so she may have never learned how to step up onto a left hand because she avoided it. Ironically, I had a cockatiel that would ONLY step onto a hand with jewelry. No jewels? Forget it!

I’m wondering about being left- or right- footed. As a left-handed person, there were a lot of people who tried to make me right-handed. They weren’t successful. Al’s, as I was watching, I remember you broke your wrist a few years ago. I seem to remember you doing a video about one of your birds wanting to use that hand, and it would tire your wrist out. Could Zip be extra-sensitive to that wrist? Enquiring minds…

She looks like I do when I don't want to lift or rely on my own left leg (I have some physical issues that make me it feel like my leg just won't hold up.) Zoom was so anxious to get in on the training; he was fun to watch.

Since you are right handed, maybe she associates your left hand as the source for treats only? Or is it possible that she may have something wrong with the vision in her right eye? That may explain why she wants to start with her left foot even when she steps up onto your left hand?
