Zip isn't feeling well...
Added 2023-10-09 03:51:32 +0000 UTCSo we had heat temps around 91 and 91 degrees and both Zip and Olivia were not feeling well because of it, and showing signs of heat stress. These signs included lack of appetite (both food and water), seeking shelter under dishes or toys, the sick eyes (where they just look like they don't feel well in their eyes), looking unkept, lethargic, fluffy, etc.
If your bird shows signs of heat stress, simply get them into a cooler temperature for a minimum of 48 hours and offer them cool, clean water. You should see them perking up pretty quickly upon getting into cooler temps. I also feed the SFS semi-frozen as well.
It did give me the opportunity to work with her on something she would be more tolerant about. What did you think?

Thank you for that short lesson. It will definitely be useful for many of us especially me.

2023-10-09 18:42:40 +0000 UTCI really enjoy you showing us bird body language in context. It also shows how quickly escalation can occur when we ignore more gentle responses. Makes sense why humans can get bitten by their birds a lot. It was fascinating to me how you helped Zip work through her unwillingness. Another testament to basics being so important. If she had no desire for treats you would have nothing she would have tolerated the petting for. I can see how many ways that could have gone so wrong. Especially with her not feeling well. As always I learned so much!

2023-10-09 18:09:52 +0000 UTCShe didn’t, I’m just trying to catch up on editing all the Zip and Zoom content I have and push it out asap this month for all of you! She’s happily in her forever home 🏡 this was before she went.

2023-10-09 14:21:44 +0000 UTCHope they feel better soon! I loved watching the misting system go up and it's such a great idea for the summer months. This training came in so handy with Yoshi when I saw you touch on it in another YT video, and we're still working on it. He's allowing small pets to the head now. He looks like a little raggedy Anne doll sometimes and I'm grateful he's allowing me to fix the stray feathers. I thought Zip did a swell job practicing!
