Hi everyone!

Meet Emily and Dan with their Pionus Niko. This is actually their 2nd consultation with me and I felt it would make a great one to share here. The first consult was all about diet conversion. Niko had been flying and attacking them, biting, screaming and seeking out spots in his bird room that were leading to nesty behavior. His diet consisted of Harrision's High Potency pellets along with quite a bit of fruit and just a small amount of veggies.

Niko had recently been to the veterinarian for a hormone implant and we discussed that hormone implants can not be effective without the correct foundations in place (and maybe not even necessary) so we started with the diet, sleep, and too much freedom.

In this second consultation we went over dialing back the portions now that Niko is diet converted which happened in just a few weeks! Kudos to Dan & Emily! We also go over teaching stationing within the cage to avoid Niko being aggressive during feeding time and how to start to figure out what the appropriate out of cage time will be for Niko now that diet conversion has happened. We also revisited working towards finding a replacement vocalization that they can capture to help with the screaming which has drastically dropped since diet conversion but they still see room for some improvement which I think is an attainable goal.
