Zoom and Ava (part 2)

I've found bathing in general tends to calm all birds down. It's a trick I use for a lot of things, but especially making birds less likely to fight with one another and cause conflict. It's definitely a go-to for me. Do you think it worked today?

That mouth movement! What a little weirdo Zoom lol

Great idea! I think I’ll set up a spa atmosphere and see if they need me to set the mood for them 😊 I’m kidding…well, not completely because I’m going to actually set something calming up. Thank you for the rule of thirds reminder!

I don't think stopping treating will work, I think it would just cause frustration and backtrack you... remember the rule of thirds? Out of every 3 reps, you have to have at least one success so don't allow 3 failures in a row or often times birds will stop training altogether. A better thing to do would be to change up the bathing environment somehow to see how you can encourage a better response.

I've never seen her offer a full bathing response before, she just seems to tolerate it as a behavior she knows.

Love these videos of them 🥰

I just adore Ava!! Zoom is pretty funny. He seems to fight for attention.

The bath training videos are really helpful. I’ve been working on this with my two WHITE COCKATOOS (yes, I said it. Not one, but two white cockatoos for this lady) and they respond very similar to Ava. I still can’t get the bathing response, although they tolerate the baths now without any distress. Do you think I stop treating them for bathing and only treat for a fluffy bathing response now that they’re consistent? Or keep treating and waiting for that bathing response to kick in? I’m afraid of losing progress. And I have to say it again, I LOVE Ava! I want to kiss that scissor beak 🥰

Does Ava dislike showers, too?
