Help me choose my next project bird!

Guys, I can't make this decision on my own.

What pulls me to work with Touche is to bring awareness of the downsides of improper wing clipping, and what it does to a bird's body, balance, mind and soul.

What pulls me to work with Lefty is the mourning she must be going through from her loss of her human... she's older, she looks angry with her current circumstance and I want to open her world that there's more love for her to experience if she just lets it in.

Please help me know which bird I should work with. Leave a comment with "Lefty" or "Touche" and WHY.

I will pick this bird up next month and drive him/her home to work with for 3 months time before we leave to tour Australia. I hope it's enough time to make a difference.

Note: Videos of this project bird's journey will be available to cockatoos+. Exclusive content will be available to my toucans+. Thank you for helping me help birds!

Also, I have REVAMPED my tiers. Check them out when you have time

xoxo

Help me choose my next project bird!

I might be able to on payday.. =)

Awe! This is definitely an issue that needs to be talked about and brought more awareness to for sure. I am still about 12 sponsors away from being able to take on Touche.

BirdTricks

Omgoodness.. Touche please! My Princess of Wales Parakeet had his wings butchered in a similar way - & he's always forgetting he can't fly & ends up landing on his tail so now his tail is half the length it was. I really want to know how you deal with it & how to help him stop breaking feathers so that he can grow new 9nes without breaking them again!

Wendyrx

Actually, touche' has quite a bit of regrowth on his wings. We are excited everyday at his wing improvement. His balance... that's another story.

Shutting it down

You can make one time donations here. Basically you choose to up the amount of your tier then once charged you bring it back down to what you can afford monthly. Does that make sense?

BirdTricks

If you look at Jamie's reply to my comment on gofundme, she ssid she wants to keep it all through Patreon? I think she is trying to organise something....

Caroline Donald

Thank you so much, this was VERY thoughtful... however, I'm going to go ahead and keep this just on Patreon - I added a tier for it and explained how people can donate through their monthly tiers as well.

BirdTricks

Jamie, I would be happy to contribute to the cost of these birds, but I'm fairly low on funds so I wouldnt be able to do it every month...I dont know if I could raise my tier but I would certainly make one-of donation....

Caroline Donald

Help me help Jamie get these birds train so they can be adopted I posted a link for her patrons only

I vote Lefty. I can't imagine what the poor boy is going through in a strange new place not knowing where his owner is. Help mend his little broken heart. I feel horrible for Touche also but I agree that he might have an easier time at the rescue and finding a new home once his wings grown back in. He seems a little more social then Lefty.

Katie Taylor

I'd like to keep this all through Patreon so I think I will make a special "project bird" tier for this. Let me just have a little time to sort out the details. πŸ˜„

Link to gofundme please!!!

Caroline Donald

So i just started a gofundme page who wants to help

Meaghan Beverage

I would say Lefty, she needs you more right now! But also offer touches owners some advice on how to build up those muscles ready for when the wings grow back in (that's of they do :( they are super short)

Leanne

That would be amazing. I mean, I would consider taking both if the funds were there (because I will ACTUALLY have the time for once). You can choose your donation amount here on Patreon. Each tier is a minumum of their set amount (so for example, someone can sign up as a conure at $2/mo and choose to give $8/mo if they want.) With enough support that could be pretty amazing. I don't want to get my hopes up but wow... what a thought!

BirdTricks

I unfortunately can't take on a project bird after the Australia tour as we begin our own fall/winter fundraising tour a week after returning home all the way through December.

BirdTricks

After our Australia tour we begin our fall/winter tour so it would not be possible for me to work with another project bird until possibly January 2020 due to my schedule.

BirdTricks

I don't think most people realize what wing clips do to the overall function of a lot of birds, especially when it's THIS bad of a clip, my lord. Would love to get that message out.

BirdTricks

Lefty. More time-urgent. xC

Carrie Stewart

I should have added though that both birds need help and if Jamie could take on both it would be amazing to follow their sucess stories.

Marina Kemp

Lefty. I am not a bird owner (friend of Jamie and she has told me not to be a bird owner but I have 2 lab mixes that are rescues so her reasoning is sound) but I feel with any well loved pet the loss of an owner and friend, the sooner the healing of the heartbreak begins the better chance the pet has at a healthy life. I think Jamie's training, nurture and care could change the direction of the birds remaining years and possibly give another person the joy of Lefty's company.

Marina Kemp

My vote is for Lefty. I think his circumstances are much more common in the world of rescue. Therefore, I think more of your viewers will be able to apply your techniques and progress to their own situations. Touché’s situation is heart breaking and I would really curious what the prognosis is on his feathers returning to better health. Also, would it be possible to create a viewer sponsored scenario where you provide consult support for a volunteer at the rescue to work with the bird not chosen to be worked with your guidance remotely. It could show viewers how successful and helpful your consult training is... I know it helped me tremendously with my bird, Reggie! πŸ˜€

Kim Russell

P.S. good luck either way, it's a tough one

Jodi

OK, JL, just a reminder this is Jodi B. And I would first want to know Touche's temperament and if training could be done by someone. Because then I'd say you could for sure guide someone else quite well. But you didn't talk about his personality at all so I'm leaning towards Lefty. Because, it's very difficult to train when there is no motivation, and that would be a major learning experience. I see this issue in the shelter/rescues I've worked with, where biting becoming the go to move. It is intimidating and hard to break through. This older girl deserves to remember love again before it's too late. That's the hardest thing for me to deal with in these situations and I would greatly benefit as would many birds from this experience.

Jodi

I know it would be expensive to help both birds...set up a gofundme and we will help, Jaimie! Please help both!

Caroline Donald

I really do hope she can help both birds. Their stories are incredibly sad

David MartΓnez Dunn

I’d say lefty. I doubt there are many people who can help a bird having that experience the way you can.

Meghann Van Dolzer

Please help Lefty! And then take Touche on AFTER you get back from Australia. I have seen how dramatically birds can change when they are grieving, and I feel Lefty needs help NOW. Touche is moulting so his feathers will start growing back in...and it would be epic if you can help in the process of relearning his life skills as its happening. Jaimie, Lefty first , then Touche, but please help BOTH these birds!

Caroline Donald

Oh man, because of my journey with Tango I have such a soft spot for clipped birds overcoming what was done to them (and omg this clip is INSANELY awful) so my vote is Touche. I feel so badly for Lefty tho...WHY YOU MAKE ME CHOOSE?!?!?

Ashlyn Barnes

this is a very hard choice but if i had to choose I would say Touche he is in desperate need of jamie's help if anyone could train hime it would Jamie

Meaghan Beverage

Lefty. Quakers are common birds and have all the personality of a larger bird. Many people, including myself, have Quakers and it would benefit a large group of people. Search "How to train a quaker parrot" on youtube and you get this older gentleman who has no idea what he is doing. I've seen many aggressive Quakers live out their entire lives in sanctuaries because no one wants to adopt them. Also, sidenote, is it not an option to do, say, Lefty now, and Touche after? I would pay to support this.

Jennifer Perez

Ronie's in Sandy, Utah

Wendy Cottingham

Hard choice. I want them both to have a healthy happy life. But my vote is TouchΓ©. I think he needs the most help.

Kayla Moore

Haha Jamie will be like "Thankssss for the help??" lol Which rescue are these guys at?

Peggy Smith

I saw Touche' a week ago and although he is molting his wings still look like that.

Wendy Cottingham

These two are not easy to choose from. There are a few things I wanted to ask before making my final vote. Are the photos of Touche current? Because I'm wondering if there's any point to starting to work with him on balance and confidence building before his flight feathers come back in? Maybe he is a good candidate for imping. Even though he is only 2 years old, improperly perching for so long may have impacted him more physically. So aside from not having his flights back yet (I'm assuming), there would be physical therapy on top of helping him get over his fear of falling, being handled and people in general. This might take longer than 3 months... So based on all those factors, I'm thinking Lefty might be a better candidate based on the time frame. She seems untame and aggressive from distrust. Possibly fear. But with your experience, you can overcome that no problem. She is older too so might be stubborn and set in her ways. But Quakers in general are tough little birds and less fearful than Indian Ringnecks. She is older but deserves a chance too and I think you can help her more in 3 months than you can help Touche.

Peggy Smith

Because I have met both of these birds it makes it extra hard!! They both need your help. Touche' is just so badly butchered and malnutritioned that he needs help just being a healthy bird that will get to use his wings one day. He has the cutest personality and seemed so interested in my Ringneck it was adorable!! I took in the two parakeets Touche' came in with. They were in a small cage with a dowel stuck sideways thru their cage. They are just now loving toys and their flight they get to take once a day. I am still struggling on getting them to eat their veggies but just thought I would share. Lefty has such a sad story and my heart goes out to him (it is a him he has sense been DNA tested) my first bird I bought myself was a Quaker and I have missed him for the last 20 years he has been gone. They are such sweet birds. It is so hard to see a bird that wants no interaction really. I personally am so interested in him. I think he is probably my choice because of how withdrawn he is and I haven't stopped thinking about him since the first time I met him. My final decision is Both!πŸ˜‰ I really shouldn't have a vote lol!!πŸ€πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

Wendy Cottingham

Touche because of how he can’t do the basic things a bird should be able do and is scared constantly which is a terrible way to live especially since she is only 2
