2021-06-24 05:33:09 +0000 UTCIt works! Nearly a year trying to clicker train Jojo with the posh clicker-try it with the end of a paintbrush and he does it first time and repeatedly! He was trained with something like the end of a paintbrush-that’s why he tore them to shreds; he thought he’d get treats!

That day 1 is so important and I feel a lot of people either go to one extreme or the other - they think they should train train train and be super strict to set boundaries immediately or not touch the birds at all and leave them alone to get used to the place. This shows there can be a balance - you can train, see where they are at skill level wise, but you don’t have to expect greatness immediately (sure, you eventually don’t want Touché rushing up to your shoulder, but he also came down nicely so day 1 that’s maybe not the issue to tackle) . You also don’t want to leave them totally alone though - you want to start bonding and desensitizing. If I could go back I would’ve done my day 1’s with both my birds so differently.

They are so different and I think it's going to be great for all of us to see how differently you apply your techniques to both birds. They are just so precious. I've always wanted a Ringneck but I'm not in a situation to take care of a bird at this point in my life... one day! Side note- I really need your sweatshirt, I am always cold too haha!
