Tell me a in comment if you've trained your bird to do this yet!

I've had people hold Cheeky on their arm for a quick pic or something but I'm always scared he'll attack, Initially when I rescued him, he was a love bug and would go to anyone. Including stranger's kids at the park (on harness). Once he hit puberty and got aggressive though, my immediate family became less interested and more scared of him. My friends are a bit scared too I think. :(

Diet conversion with bean is up on here in the first 3 videos. I also show more diet conversion in my budgie course, and have a lot of free downloads on my website about it as well. But it's mostly in the most recent two videos with Bean.

BirdTricks

Great! Thanks...Will your diet conversion be up on you tube or here soon? Just gave my Grey some sweet potato with some of your pellets mixed in. :-)

Melanie Simpson

You will get a lot of out watching my diet conversion with Bean then because he was also on a seed diet and I started him on my seasonal feeding which he took right to, and then used my birdie bread to get him onto the pellets which took some time!

BirdTricks

Reward him for looking at it, for letting it be close, and then for allowing you to touch his beak with it, and slowly work from there.

Can't believe I never saw this comment! I usually tell people training isn't about tricks, it's about having a common language so you can understand one another. But sometimes people learn more from failures...

I've just recently started with my 34 year old African Gray. He is and always has been on a seed diet, no sunflower, with lot's of veggies. He's not crazy about too many fruits. I've been using the sunflower as a high value treat. Bogie is somewhat interested in target training, but the clicker I have scares him. Getting ready to make the switch to your .pellets. I've tried pellets over the years with not much success. We shall see...he's been a great pet and steps up and down easily to my hand whether it's on the cage, off the cage, or off the floor....even off my shoulder when I allow him up there. I've been watching your videos for the last few months...Boy, how times have changed...so much new info!! You guys are awesome!!!

I can't wait to start this with my cockatiels! We haven't found a treat they will eat yet, but hopefully once we get their diet switched it'll help! RIght now, the only treat they will do anything for is millet, so we're making it work lol...

Hey everybody! A little late to the party, but i have been trying to touch train Sidney the Cockatiel... But seem to be getting nowhere. He doesn't seem to like any treats at all. He will happily be interested in the stick but i obviously can't reward him and therefore my training stops there. Any tips?

I've touch trained both the budgies and when my cats were still alive I touch trained them too. I plan on using touch training for any animal I get in the future :)

I’m sure you can find videos on YouTube? I’ve clicker trained my cats in the past - and watched YouTube videos where mice ( doing an agility course) and even goldfish ( swimming through loops and all sorts of things) were clickertrained successfully ( using a flashlight ). It’s truly amazing how clicker training makes you able to communicate with all sorts of animals 🥰

Did anyone successfully used target training on hamsters? I'm not sure if their intellectual capability is suited for this type of training.

Great video, it put a smile on my face❤️.I was so happy to find out that I could become a Patreon and follow cute Touché and his journey. And watch how you train him, so I could learn from you. 😀I think so highly of you and your training methods. 🙏 I got a baby IRN back in March and he’s my first parrot 😬. Yes I totally fell in love with their cute voices and their beauty. And my Kiwi (! ) is so active, playing all the time. I can just watch him for hours. He sleeps in his cage, but the rest of the time he’s outside, fully flighted. But yeah he’s definitely a “can’t touch me” bird. ( that MC Hammer video made me laugh so hard ). I wish I could teach him to accept being touched, I even bought a harness for him 😬😬 ... I’m eager to see how far you can get little Touché and I’ll definitely be training along with you. Ty for your awesome job 🦜 Kindest regards from Denmark

I want to target train so much! But the place that Fred, my Goffin's Cockatoo used to live had him on an all seed and nuts diet, so I haven't found anything he considers a "treat"...yet. I just brought Fred home this month, on the 5th and we're still trying to get his diet changed over to you're feeding system and pellets. He still tosses the pellets out of his dish and pretty much ignores his veggies. He did eat the beans out of it and he loves peas. But he can't live on beans and peas. LOL So the target training has to wait for the diet change over. =0 /

What do u do when someone asks how to get their bird out of its cage n u mention target training but then they said oh but hes so good he had a trainer he doesnt need training. I told her to check it out on YouTube but she's insistent that he doesn't need "training"

Courtney Frame

I not only use it daily but if anyone asks about a problem they are having I tell them start with target training!! My daughter has to use it sometimes with our Ringneck if she needs him in his cage. She doesn't completely trust him he is more fearful then aggressive.

Wendy Cottingham

Hahaha my gcc brings me the clicker or chopstick too haha smart little babies

Courtney Frame

I use it with my dog when my fiance is out of the house. he gets major seperation anxiety and acts like imma beat him or something T.T so i let him sleep/hide under blankets in the same room with me and once a day use target training to get him to come out more and more, or if i need him to calm down and let me check him out because recently he had some wounds we had to keep track of. Because of this he comes out more and more, to take care of his needs, to check out my other pets, or follow me to other rooms for food. :) target training was also the only way ive been able to train him because hes fairly hand shy.

Gabrielle Gillespie

Yes, my tiel does touch-training. It's challenging when he gets a bit aggressive, but we work through it.

Rangersyl

Yes! I learned it from your videos and use it with my GCC all the time! She's pretty fearless most of the time, so I haven't had to use it to get around fear yet. She knows that the clicker and the chopstick mean training, which means treats, so she's actually gotten the chopstick and the clicker and brought them to me when she wants treats, er, to train.

Heather Wolf

Love it too. Such a great tool to start getting ur bird to trust you. Taught my gcc to spin yesterday. 💖💖💖

Courtney Frame

i love it

Touch training is my go to!! Almost all the tricks we teach start with touch training, and it is the only way I can work with the bird who is bonded to my husband most of the time. If she doesn't want me handling her I can target her to where I need her to be, and I also use targeting to station her while changing out her food bowls as she can be very food aggressive. It's an amazing tool!
