Should you hold small birds feet?
Added 2019-09-23 12:59:59 +0000 UTCYou guys kept asking me about this so here's what I have to say about it!

We usually put out content based on what we are hearing in consults and one of the things we were getting feedback of was people wondering how our training translates to small birds - including feet holding, and people misusing the feet holding thing and just "going for it" vs actually training it as a trick. You can only just go for it with baby birds learning to stand on your hand at all, but adult birds need to be trained for it and desensitized to it. Does that answer your question? I feel we've always said the same things about it, just maybe not gone into such detail before.

2020-07-28 20:14:15 +0000 UTCThis is great stuff and need to know info for those who have smaller birds. My Goffin's Cockatoo is missing his toe-nail/claw on the longest toe of his left foot. He does not want to step up no matter what I do. I still keep at the training, but I wonder if that has something to with his reluctance to step up. He also does not like when I hold his right foot once I get him on my finger (sneaky way). He is a bit clumsy on his perch and often falls into a flight to catch himself on the side of the cage. I try not to laugh at him. =0 / He does let me cover him with my hand. He is super cuddly like most white Cockatoos. A little sweety, but will still nip if he's agitated. I have to really watch his body language. LOL
