This is what it is supposed to look like with Bondi, my rose breasted cockatoo! Can you feel the breast bone of your bird? Let me know in the comments!

Gosh, people on forums are just toxic and judgy, it makes me sad. Just always keep an eye on the bottom of the cute feet and ensure no pink or redness is happening and you're good. xo

You just made me feel so much better! I had a sandy perch, and some “expert” on Facebook made me feel like I was killing my birds lol! She seriously pet shamed me and said I was basically torturing them and destroying their feet, and to towel them and file them. I’m glad to know you’re not opposed to 1-2 sand perches, and even gladder to know I’m not running a birdie torture chamber! ;-)

All good to know. Fred's beak seems fine, I was just curious. Fred seems to spend a lot of time on the sides of his cage, playing with his toys, foraging, staring at us and carrying on with the wild birds in our back yard. But when he's on a perch and turns around he will sometimes wobble and have to flap his wings to get set again. Of course he could be an old guy, we don't know his age for sure. But he doesn't act like an old man, except for the wobble times. 😜 He has lots of energy and he took to target training really fast. I do need a decent training perch and see if he'll stay on it. He loves to explore. 😒 He can be a handful. Thank you for the reply. Stay safe and well.

Bandit was also missing part of a nail on his front foot and it didn't seem to negatively effect his balance. I'd say they learn to get on. As for beak trimming... nooo... but I don't notice overgrowth in my bird's beaks either. But I would never trust myself to do something like that if it was needed unless I was trained and it was constantly necessary. I'd want a vet teach or someone to teach me though. For nails, I just use those sandy and cement perches often enough that it keeps the nails trim and they don't develop any kind of foot sores.

Do you do this type of training for nail clipping and beak trimming? I really need to work on Fred's nails. Also, do you think the fact that Fred is missing a nail on his longest front toe, that it contributes to his balance issue. He seems to get off balance quite easily. Thanks for this video, it's much needed and since Fred is about the same size as Bondi it's nice to see it done on her. 😃💖

Aw that's a good idea. Capri hogs him at the moment... but maybe after the first course is out the door I could try this with him. He still has a ways to go relationship wise before I'd try this yet.

Will you show how you do this with Blueberry?? I have such a hard time with my small birds.
