Q&A Answers!

You guys kept all the details in this month! Here are the answers to your questions. Some of you chose to ask me questions privately this month and that's okay if that is your preference. I won't include those in my videos as I reply to those people via text response back in my Patreon DM's.

Loved this video, especially the showing of the different fu feathers! That was great reference, while also being entertaining! I definitely have a very subtle fu feathered bird I swear she moves her feathers an eighth of an inch to depict you are about to be bitten. Regards to the biting while on your hand, I wonder if it is a similar behaviour they were getting at like my bird. She will get on my hand calmly then start wrestling and biting my fingers while flipping. It seems very playing (I have seen caiques do the same thing) I put her down when she gets uber hard bitey with it but then she doesnt leave my hand. ( I would have responded to the question but I didnt see it listed. I was just curious if this was what behaviour they were getting at.)

Yes, and keep in mind we are usually hearing some of the worst stories because of our profession of helping people so we often hear a lot of stories. One person would tell us they can't attend a masterclass because their dog suddenly ate their bird, or a friend who free flies his birds in Asia had his bird in training on a harness, hooked to a perch, and a person's husky jumped up and killed it. It's those albeit "random" acts that we hear of so often that give us the viewpoint we do. Ideally we'd all live in peace and harmony but that's not how nature technically designed everything to work... xo

You cracked us up! It's all good. I'm so glad to hear the diet conversion is over with and was a success!

Diet conversion is so hard (can be time consuming and expensive)! My cockatiels were only at the rescue for a month and were still on seed diet (the millet wasnโ€™t free-fed at least). Iโ€™ve been focusing on expanding their fresh food palate and learning their food texture preferences which seems like it plays a huge role for them (grated carrots over chopped, finely chopped...everything, mushy lentils over whole, etc.). The good thing about self-isolation is the time and being able to observe their eating. Pellet conversion is a bit of a stand still because Iโ€™m focusing on the fresh food. They still get a seed mix with powdered TOP pellets all over it in the evening. ๐Ÿ˜ฃ I figure I can get a fresh food to mix in the pellets later to start conversion. As for the dog debate, it was interesting to hear. I want to take my birds to family dinners where some family members have dogs (2 huskies, toy poodle, Maltese, and yorkie). I should probably keep the birds on harness or travel cage and away from the dogs to not be spooked by them but not familiar (not friends). Thank you for the info and sharing your opinions.

Thank you!! I had forgotten that that was the question I asked so I was all surprised ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ There was another one about Tango I wanted to ask as well and thought I had asked that one instead lol. I will try the setting back down and targeting back for sure - I'll just need to rearrange her stands a bit to make it work. I'll post an update on here later with how it goes ๐Ÿ˜ƒ thanks again!

It was a great question!!

Thanks for the answer to my question. I'm happy to say that I have converted my CAG's diet and have started target training. We are working through the Family Friendly Parrot Formula and making great progress. Sorry for providing TOO MUCH detail!!

I really appreciate how you guys answered the dog and bird situation. I come from the dog world (training, sports and grooming) and I think with ANY animal respect is of the upmost importance. Respect between human and pets as well as respect between other pets is a must in keeping peace. I have both very large dogs and very small ones and although they are all well trained instict is still there. Personally, the risk is much too high for me to allow free interaction between the two.
