Oh Flock! (A different kind!)
Added 2020-06-27 17:59:59 +0000 UTCToday I posted a video on my YouTube channel about how quarantine has made some birds wayyyyyy more needy... and such is the case with my macaw, Jinx. Since he stopped showing as much interest in toys lately (specifically with my kabob line in my parrot boxes) I thought... this is probably happening to everyone else, too! And my thought as confirmed with the dozens of emails of birds showing early signs of separation anxiety, not wanting or being able to handle being away from their owners anymore (even merely out of sight!) etc etc...
This is a video I've always wanted to make and just never had: how to TRAIN your bird to play with toys! So I decided to finally show it! I originally used Bean a bit in it too but then realized my YouTube Channel doesn't know him yet so he only remained in the outro. But I wanted to show you all how this translates to the bird's enclosure in case some of you choose to do the training within the bird's cage. Obviously my aviary door was open so you guys could see without bars in the way!

Because I believe fully in the toy companies I use, I feel safe about giving my small birds medium and large sized toys and vice versa with my large birds. I like that they can all enjoy them all. The other day my conures were playing with one of the huge coconut toys we offer and pulling allllll the stuffing out of it which was so fun to watch!

2020-06-28 14:59:45 +0000 UTCLOL, me too! I think if Jinx reasons that if he says "ok" (Jamie's part of the bridge) he can trigger Jamie into surrendering a treat. So what we've got here is Jamie trying to train Jinx and Jinx trying to train Jamie. Smart bird! 🙂
