Bean's first 4 days with me

Check out the progress I made with Bean in just 4 days!

Bean's first 4 days with me

Comments

You guys really are amazing with parrots. One of the stupidest criticisms I've heard of you guys is someone commenting "I don't micro manage everything my bird does,I just let birds be birds" implying you don't let your birds be birds, I guess. 🙄 This is so dumb because literally everything you guys do is so your pet parrot get the best simulation of what they can do in the wild. But obviously they're not in the wild, and training is a necessity for our home environment. And that is TRULY letting a bird be bird. You have them on the healthiest diet imaginable and train them to fly,you have them in aviaries and outside, bathed in sunshine and their daily baths. You go above and beyond to make sure they do get to be birds! Bean is certainly a foodie and a cuddler. Him and Capri were so cute at the end.

I joined, but it’s not letting me view this video - it says that the video is unlocked, but also private. Any tips?

Caid Jones

Hi!

Caid Jones

Hi I just joined the patron team so I could follow bean's story as I saw it first on YouTube and it was really helping me with my parrot but now I go to click this video and it's not available, how can I access this video?

Lara

That makes total sense! I think I’m probably going to need to do the same thing with the Timneh I’m going to rehabilitate.

Melissa Kathryn Chandler

Oh gosh, I feel busted lol! No, he did not. Not possible when they're sleeping out since we don't sleep that long. Unless you're Blueberry and put yourself to bed on time lol. But I felt like the trade off was needed to make certain progress. He eventually progressed to 12 hours but not initially. Sometimes you have to have give and take on things like that because you can't have both (yet).

BirdTricks

Hi Jamie! I’m a new patron, so if I missed this information, I apologize….but did Bean get a full 12 hours of sleep while sleeping on the stands? Just wondering because I’m taking on a Timneh rehabilitation and want to try a cageless approach to keep him from becoming cage bound out of fear.

Bean may want veggie pieces for his treats. The tastes and textures of fresh food seem to excite him!

So impressed with Capris wisdom and self control!! Love this cute Bean!!

Nancie Rogers

Yeah, it's this playstand from Prevue/Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/shop/birdtricks?listId=WWZF4DP84QK8 I'm considering starting to sell them but want to investigate each and every size for quality before I decide! The one I am using is the large size.

BirdTricks

I love how Capri is with the birds...

Kyila Sninsky

And P.S. is there any info you can share on the stand where the target training took place? I love it, and would like to have 1 more stand since the addition of the Ruppell's parrot.

Mandy Rautio

How darling is Capri with Bean?! At first I thought he was going to be a "kitchen Grey" like Marlene's two. It was so nice to see how well he's taking to his new diet- he sure was digging those sprouts! I was getting nervous, watching his uncomfortable behavior, but you handled it perfectly by allowing him to communicate his desires rather than driving your self nuts trying to figure him out immediately, as I probably would do- that's what separates the Trainers from the mere aficionado, I guess :)

Mandy Rautio

He’s come so far in just a few days! And Capri really shows that she can read the birds and understands to ask and offer rather than try to force them to do anything. That is amazing for a girl so young to be so good with the birds!! She’s going to be an awesome trainer just like her mom and dad :)

Ashley Gray

So I am petrified of birds. My mom had them and she had the meanest quaker that has scarred me for life but I found your YouTube and can't stop watching! My husband is in love with birds and wants an African grey so bad. So I'm hoping watching and now supporting will help me get over my fear so one day we can get him one. Thank you for you compassion!

Patricia Broussard

Bean is doing amazingly well. It gives me hope that I can convert my Grey. Capri really has a way with birds, far beyond her years. She's growing up to be quite the trainer. :-)

Melanie Simpson

I'm really interested on this one on one with this feathery version Mr. Bean like the comedian but even better🤗 My 🦜 🦜yellow fronted are having same problems and I have to get the knowledge from you to reeducate them. Capri is a nice co-assistant!

Heliodoro Hernández

I know, right! How SMART is this little guy. That he was not only able to keep track of that bag of food but also to hold out for some of it! She’d better hide that bag well or Mr. Bean will start manufacturing reasons to into that room next week. Greys ARE tool users, after all!

John E Rice

“Changing birds, one person at a time”. Hey! I think I GET IT! 🦜

John E Rice

That bird is going to have a wonderful life and attitude when you and Capri have finished with him. Sad he can’t stay, with you after losing his first family, but he is being better fed and trained. Loved the sneaky try for his old bag of feed, shows how bright they are.

Jacqueline Gedye

Capri needs a big project bird. I’d love to see what she could do with her own Macaw. I have more confidence in her abilities than I do my own! What an intelligent little girl. Like Mommy, like daughter.

Tempie Elder

Bean is adorable. 😍 His excitement for breakfast and his cuddliness is just 🤗! My cockatiel is so easily spooked too. I’ve been walking the upstairs area with her on my hand for a few minutes to desensitize her to the area. She mostly stays on my hand. The kitchen and living room is much harder (constantly being spooked). I don’t feel comfortable having her down there for long periods because my doors aren’t screened and I don’t want someone to open the door and spook her and out the door. I already lost her once in May. 😖 When she spooks she flies several circle laps and completely ignores the hand I put out, I can’t even catch her. I have to wait for her to land somewhere. How do you desensitize birds to places/environments? Just constant exposure?

Rosanna Lam

I know I am going to learn a lot to help oscar the timneh he is 30 approx and wild caught I have him at home from March he loves his head patted , cant fly , he was in a cage for 30 years and as far as I understand he did not come out . He will bite if he does not like something .

Lorene Pogo

You both are wonderful parents, its heart warming to catch glimpses of how you interact as a family! You are defiantly role models that the general population should aspire to be like.

Maggie Mitten

Aw thank you!

BirdTricks

I can’t get over how sweet he is! Capri is great, she is so calm and patient!

Jennifer Percopo

Capri is hands down the sweetest little girl on the face of this planet. She did so well with Bean :) I cant wait to see more progress with the two of them!

Maggie Mitten

Awe Capri is so good with him!

Rae Friedrich
