Jamie visits Sunnyside ep. 1

Although Sunny converted to our ideal diet (our pellets + seasonal feeding system) getting him to get onto our seasonal feeding system was MUCH harder than the pellet conversion. Sunny started out on Roudybush pellets which I've found to be the easiest transition when it comes to pellet to pellet conversion.

So I used an OLDDDD trick in my book of tricks to get Sunny onto the fresh food and I was quite happy with myself for interfering...

that was awesome to watch

Ooo I'm going to have to try this with my picky Timneh Grey. I've tried mixing in sweet potato or egg but he doesn't go for either. And he doesn't eat pellets. He came to us on an all seed diet so he still just mostly picks through and eats the seeds.

Carmen Griggs

Too funny, I cant believe he stuffed himself that much! 🤣

caitlyn Metcalf

YAY!!!!

Teresa Kernodle

Winning! I love how he looks at the end, he’s a lovely happy boy 😊

Evita Westwood

I have a cockatiel who is legendary in his resistance to fresh food - nothing works. I will have to try the cream style corn. Thank you!

Rangersyl

Yeah Jamie!!! Good job Sunny!

Janice Hansen

Thank you!

BirdTricks

My birds do the same which is why I don't even use it anymore but you can toss it into the food processor and it acts as a great binding ingredient that way, especially when you don't rinse it off from straining.

BirdTricks

Quinoa looks a lot like millet and can often act as an enticement for small birds, and you can always incorporate their seed mix into it as a transition of them at least getting their beak into it!

BirdTricks

Yes it is! Awesomely enough, he only needed that enticement initially before I was using whole kernel corn (with some of the juice from the can as well) and then eventually no corn at all in the mix. Cream style has more sugar than is preferable but as a diet conversion tool it's powerful because of that so if you need to use less healthy versions of foods to achieve the desired long term end result of the ideal healthy diet, I believe it's worth it.

Big crop belly! So nice to see on a picky bird! 👋🏻 Great work and awesome tip!!

Jessica Almquist

Sunny already looks 100% better.

Shelah Moore

Go ahead Jamie. Interfere. Dave won’t mind at all because he has faith in your skills. With that kind of success, he knows that this will make his training with Sunny an even greater success. You guys make the best team. Anxiously awaiting the next vid.

My GCC loves the seasonal feeding she especially picks out the pasta if it’s in there lol 😝

Lee-Ann Sharp

I couldn’t get them to even try eggs 😂 I got them eating the winter-spring recipe by mixing it with sweet potato, but they’re not a fan of summer. I’ve tried mixing millet in but they just pick out the millet

Jennifer Percopo

Same! My cockatiel prefers her old chop (less complex version) too! I did the whole Birdtricks summer chop and she hardly touches it (she picks out the beans tho!). Not sure if she likes corn but I know she likes eggs to mix in.

Rosanna Lam

This is so great!! I’m definitely trying this. My tiels we’re finally eating the chop, but have stopped now that I switched to summer. They weren’t interested in the applesauce like Kauwaii was so I’m definitely going to try the corn! I swear my tiels do not understand they’re birds, they don’t like ANYTHING birds are supposed to like lol... anything fresh is trying to murder them apparently 😂

Jennifer Percopo

Is that canned cream style corn?

Rangersyl

That crop- OMG!! LOL I guess he likes it! haha You're amazing Jamie- great job!

Wendy Miller

I just went through a similar scenario with a Meyers Parrot that I took in 2 weeks ago. He had never seen fresh veggies before coming here. I share your elation at seeing a seasonal feeding face!!

Jen Perry

What a great idea! My B&G loves corn...I have a small of frozen kernels in the seasonal feeding. He has to really hunt through his dish to find a piece or two...they are like little nuggets of gold 😉
