Jamie in Sunnyside (ep. 4)

Still working on this bathing thing with Sunny! Here's a longer behind the scenes clip - don't you wish I had filming standards like Dave? lol

Jamie in Sunnyside (ep. 4)

Comments

I noticed for most of the time he also let go with his feet and pulled them up like he was flying. The second you left the cage he grabbed onto the perch again. To me, it felt like he was trying to fly away from something he wasn't quite comfortable with but wasn't sure how to do it. With his new feathers in, I broke down and upped my tier so a bit behind but catching up now :)

Chris Mallabon

So hard to say. I think it's more of an anxiety related behavior (I feel the leaning over and doing it is...) but Jinx also does a behavior like this when he's waiting around - especially in a travel carrier so I want to say anxious? But I am not 100% on that.

Jamie, what response is that when he moves his wings without spreading them and tucks his tail (4:50)? My macaw (also a rescue) does the exact same thing and I have yet to figure out if it is hormonal or not?

Zaira Lupidi

Yes, Cressi bathes the least of my flock then Bondi is right after her and then everyone else is great about it lol. Bandit used to bathe less than Bondi and he was much more powdery than Bondi. So yeah, their powder keeps them clean. I still like to offer the opportunity daily but it doesn't mean they have to bathe daily.

Jamie does the dust comment hold true for greys as well?

Great progress with Sunny! He looks like he’s relaxing a bit more every time I see him. I love watching your sessions on behavior as I have plenty to learn about bird body language and position. I’ve been volunteering in a rescue and this helps for when I adopt in December. Yay Sunny boy! 😎🦜❤️

Jessica Almquist

aww mine too xo

BirdTricks

Haha, I actually get that quite a bit which is so interesting

BirdTricks

aw thank you!

BirdTricks

When I saw Sunny step onto your hand it reminded me of how emotional it was for Dave when that happened. To see you excited too is exactly why you guys were meant for each other. And for the birds!

Tempie Elder

My Indian Ringneck loves hearing your voice. He actually goes nuts when he hears it.

Patricia Lynn

My heart! When you helped him out in the beginning when he was trying not to fall! I swear my heart exploded!

Leia Gibson

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate your input. I'll try spacing the sessions out more to see if he's more of a "Radar" type bather (a once a month kind of guy). LOL

Kathy Surber

He looks like a completely different bird from when you first got him!

Alexis Stubbs

The cutest little wing flap from Sunny! I cant wait to see him pull out of the atrophy, but he looks so much better already

I am not working on this every day by any means. My sessions are quite spaced apart. Cockatoos are more dusty though so they do prefer to bathe less frequently than macaws in my experience.

BirdTricks

This was great. I'm still working with Fred (the Goffin's Cockatoo) bathing/showering. After 5 sessions over several days he still does not like it. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. But Sunny seems to be getting better about it. Maybe it's just a Cockatoo thing.
