Bean's first time...

Oh my goodness! Capetians good at the camera too. And she is so sweet. Her little voice is adorably . You asked what would I do... I would have stayed in the aviary e we ith him. Maybe bring a chair in and let him get use to it with me slide by.

Connie Muttart

Yep, I made a separate video cataloging his bathing progress, it's coming next month

BirdTricks

Has bean had a shower there yet? I have been wondering how well he will shower in his new place.

ShelB

Capri is a good little camera girl. Video was steady and she gave commentary quite nicely

Lisa Fahlstrom

Love it!!!!

Laura J Wilcox

Great job Ms Jamie. Bean is coming along. I might would do an outside chore in backyard in site of aviary where he can see you and you can check on him and talk to him should he need comfort. With time he will stay longer and longer. He almost has his head scratcher trained!

Linton Hutcheson

Had a thought on the birdie bread. If you grind the larger ingredients small enough you might be able to roll it into a string like you were making pretzel sticks then after baking, cut into tiny pieces for treats.

Chris Mallabon

All is good when there are head scratches :) I agree that his motions are a form of begging. Basically emphasizing that he wants more company in this case. Seen the same thing in other greys. The aviary does look bare so I'd bring a toy or two when coming back to check on him.

Chris Mallabon

I am guessing, because one of my birds does this, that he may be too scared to step up off of a surface that he may not be sure of. Kind of scared to let go (so wait! pet me and don't leave me! But you are gonna have to peel my feet off of this beam before I go anywhere!)

kgov

He looks really content out there for his first time. Like others have suggested, I would start with small increments of time such as three to five minutes with leaving him alone to see how he is doing. If all looks well, I would slowly increase the amount of time that I am away. At around the 14 minute mark, is that his body language showing that he's nervous, or was he considering flying?

Patti Kousoulis

lol that must have been AMAZING!!!! I was a camp counselor one year, and us staff were like a cool family while the kids would change, I picture a cruise ship being like that, but like times a million!! Such an awesome experience for a kid, she must have been their little mascot! And u complain about it while they’re in your bed, but once they’re in their own, don’t you miss it? Ahh parenting, can never win 😂

Jennifer Percopo

omg same lol! but mostly because cruise ship rooms only have one bed... until europe. then she had a bunk!

BirdTricks

This I want to come I dont want to come thing is so like my grey! I cant wait to see how you deal with this thing XD excited to see more of Bean

Rui Fang

I think he demonstrates a lot of trust and affection for you, and wants you to hang out and keep him company! He seems so expressive. His look when you "suggested" he try the center beam of the swing (and I know, this is totally anthropomorphic!) seemed like, 'I know it's safe 'cause she says it is, but how exactly do I do this?' And I second the comment above, great filming and narration, Capri!

JESSICA R SULLIVAN

That aviary is so cool.

Patricia Lynn

My question: Do birds eat if they are nervous/scared? My guy won't at all. I think it is amazing what ya'all have done. Great job filming Capri. Seemed like Bean got nervous with the sound of the train when you left the aviary. Bean is a rockstar.

Patricia Lynn

The longer he was in there the calmer he got... I think what u did was perfect- leave him alone but when he got antsy go back into view so he knows you’re still there... kind of like sleep training a kid, longer time stretches before u go back. Tho I didn’t do that right either, my 7 year old ended up sleeping with me till she was 4 😂 I’m a total pushover

Jennifer Percopo

Also maybe some foraging toys with his favorite treats in there?

Heather J Stevenson

I'm sooooo proud of Bean! Great job buddy and great job to you Jamie! I'd be like a helicopter parent and keep hovering around which wouldn't be good for either of you! I think let him have an opportunity to chill and I'd check on him (from afar, ninja like) every 5-10 minutes.

Teresa Kernodle

Mine does the same thing. I would work on targeting his calm behavior, and not reinforcing his anxious behavior.

Heather J Stevenson

It's so awesome to see him bond this much so fast, he was basically begging for you to stay. I would do another activity by the aviary for 1-2 hours and see if he would get used to the environment, maybe get another bird in one of the other aviaries or I would cover up a bit more of the aviary as he may feel exposed.

FlyingCookie

Brave Bean...

Victoria Karpinski

I would let him stay for like 5 minutes with me in the house and see if the antsy goes away or turns in to full on panic. I don’t know if that may cause him to withdraw back into the shell he seems to slowly be coming out of. Although it seems to me each little accomplishment gives him more confidence.

Sherry mathes

Great progress!! I think he is trying to train you to be his best constant companion!!! 😂 He did great!!
