Getting Bean to enjoy water (the process + journey)

I edited Bean's bathing progress into its own video, hope you enjoy seeing it this way!

Getting Bean to enjoy water (the process + journey)

I do but I have multiple perches on the side where I can get them closer into the water or further away based on what's going on inside!

When you shower with your birds do you wash your hair and body and all that? I would like to shower with my birds more often but I’m not sure if I should be worried about the scents in the soaps and soap getting on their feathers and whatnot.

Alysia Porras

I think they do it that way to tell if there's a connection between potential owner and bird, and be able to follow up with how the bird is doing, especially if the bird needed to go back to the rescue for any reason. But yeah, he legally belongs to that rescue so whatever they say goes as I am not in charge of any of that stuff.

BirdTricks

The shower perches I use swivel to the right and left and I have multiples so the bird can be further away from the water or moreso in it.

I am so in love with Bean and want him so badly. I know they are all gray mannerisms but it is so hard to not think he is my bird Humphrey Bogart. I live in Wisconsin and I have been told placement needs to occur in the same state he lives in for monitoring. Please tell me there could be a way around this. Kim from Wisconsin

When you shower with them how do you keep soap/shampoo etc away?

Barbara Stone

Every time I see a video, I learn so much!! Thank you! I love bean!

Patricia Lynn

You should be proud! I've been watching your updates - keep at it!!

BirdTricks

He is the sweetest thing!!! I’m in love πŸ₯°

Jennifer Percopo

Yes! πŸ˜‚

Carmen Griggs

OMG are you the owner of the little timneh on Insta??

BirdTricks

That would be great but I’m in Minnesota. I did purchase the 5 consult package and had my first consult last week. I’ve phased out the stick entirely and it feels like a huge step backwards in what I’m able to do with him, but I need to build his trust with me. He does beg to train with the one verbal cue I’ve captured with him β€œgive kisses” 😊

Carmen Griggs

lol awe. Sounds like you need a masterclass! xo

BirdTricks

Anything you have on phobic African greys would be great! Sometimes I just get discouraged with how much effort and consistency it takes to get to the tiniest breakthrough! Your content is great but you make it look way too easy for the average person with zero previous bird experience. πŸ˜‚

Carmen Griggs

You guys are scheduled to get 3-4 full length videos of Bean each month and then the Sunnyside episodes are random but I try to take them frequently.

BirdTricks

Depends on how severe it is. If he can't handle the sight or sound of water then no I would not recommend it. If he finds comfort from you then that's a start of having him nearby.

BirdTricks

Yeah, Bean doesn't have a fear of my hands but he does have a fear I haven't announced yet that I will be showing how to work through that should teach body language of greys in the process for ya.

BirdTricks

My motto is giving them the option to bathe every day, even if they don't take you up on it. I'd say probably no less than 2-3 times per week but I've definitely found my grey, Cressi, prefers to bathe the least of my flock.

BirdTricks

I am not sure I will have Bean long enough to do flight recall. I need to return him before my flight trip travels - but I do think someone who chooses to be his forever home could do that for sure! He is capable, he just needs more clipped feathers to fall out and regrow back in nicely.

BirdTricks

I would love to just see more of Bean (and Sunny) πŸ˜„

Alexis Stubbs

would you recommend a shower perch for an 30 years old African Grey who’s almost phobic of water? I had a major fail with his water desensitization process this week and he really needs a bath and i’m super discouraged :/

Guy Goldstein K

This was cute and how funny about Sunny and the rain storm!! β€œGet me outta here!!”

Nancie Rogers

Bean doesn’t appear to have an issue with hands, but I’d love more on helping a bird get over hand hatred. I realize it is going to take a long time and I have to be extremely patient to not blow out his threshold. Yes, I’ve watched the Rasta series but his body language is so different than an African Grey that I haven’t been able to use much of those techniques.

Carmen Griggs

How often would you think an African Grey should bathe or take a shower?

Shelah Moore

Great Job......glad to know I’m not the only one to shower with my bird! Doc....my bird does not like bottle either. He prefers to take shower with you and get all the secondary mist splash. On hot days likes sitting outside by pool and let you mist him with hose. Other times; if you hold a hose.....he will come down and just sit on hose under his wing and thrash water on himself while perched on your arm. Do you think you could do a series where you get Bean to fly to you from a perch?

Linton Hutcheson

eee! bean videos! xD spray bottles are no good (for now, anyway)... but what does he think of a hose? i wonder if that might be any better?
