Q&A Sept 2020

Woohoo!

Sebesa Stohldrier

Oh wow yeah, that’s a lot of issues! One or two you can live with, but it’s got pretty much every annoying feature possible lol... Walking by and hearing it rattle would drive me NUTS!! Your aviaries are out of this world amazing, if I had those I don’t think anything would get me to switch to a cage again! 😂 we found a really nice corner cage to use as a sleeper cage and just got a bunch of new big stands, and hubby is finishing a homemade bird tree (from your blog!!) this week. Thank you so much for all your help and advice, always!! 🤗

The morning meal is my seasonal feeding so it's not just veggies, and it's absolutely no fruits. It offers year round nutrition. My pellets are the evening meal. Treats (nuts, seeds) are only used for interactions/training. Sometimes I mix my seasonal feeding mix with steamed sweet potato or hard boiled eggs and that can really bulk up the meal for them (I am currently doing that on my flight trip since one meal is treats in the morning for flying and the early afternoon/evening meal is the bulked up seasonal feeding.)

Haha! We are working on one for Cash/Crash

A flight cage would be great as long as the bar spacing is ideal!

BirdTricks

I really dislike the super wide bar spacing that is considered standard for big birds. My aviaries have smaller spacing that have made them universal for all my birds of all sizes (except the bottom part I did made it impossible for Blueberry). I also felt like for an XL sized cage, it was too small. Whenever we walked by it, I heard the parts kinda rattle, that drove me nuts... also the feeding dishes were installed in a way where the bird can flip them into the cage and out of the holder (pet peeve). When you pushed it around on its wheels, it was all over the place for being able to steer it. Want me to go on? lol...

So I'm curious when you feed your birds twice a day, does that mean they get fresh fruits and veggies in the morning and pellets at night that they don't get anything else other then treats when you work with them? Is there enough nutrients in the fresh fruits and veggies in the morning to keep them full until the nighttime feeding of pellets? Do you give them pellets in the am or afternoon also. I hope this isn't to confusing? Thanks!

Thank you for answering my question about dealing with a new bird around people with dementia. Scrabble has come home and is doing well. I gave my mother teats to randomly give him a few times a day when she passes by his cage. She is the sole giver of cashews, which are a favorite. I will try your advice for target training him on her while she is sitting still. I think it would be a good exercise for both of them. She can dispense the treats. He's just started target training and is really into it. He's such a serious student that jackpot rewards bum him out because it means he can't play the stick game each time he eats a piece. BTW, I love Capri's fuzzy unicorn fanny pack! Scrabble would love the giant treats inside it!

Will you guys ever do a Military Macaw pin?asking for Monte lol

Zaira Lupidi

Capri is a hoot and a half! I’d like to get a bigger day cage for my cockatiel. What would y’all recommend? I live in an apartment that is a decent size for where I live.

It’s awesome that AnimalWonders and Birdtricks help each other out! I’m looking forward to seeing your old cages being used by Jessie’s animals on her YouTube channel.

I can’t wait for that gorgeous Bean pin! You mentioned the cage that you ended up not liking, what about it was a “no”? I’m buying a new big cage this week, and want to do it right the first time. I’ve seen a few I like but can’t make up my mind. So I would love to know what made it a dealbreaker for you!

Jennifer Percopo

EARLY! 😉☺️ I love Animal Wonders Montana! She’s great at explaining things too!
