This month on BTT we are using a bird... any guesses which one it is?!

BTT - Lets SHOW You Something!

If the animal could maul you to death would you still do it? Dave, you clearly don't know your audience well. I'm 95% sure I'm going to die petting something I shouldn't LOL jk.. ;)

Catrin Griffiths

Yay birds! Also, no, we do not expect you to get bitten by the tiny dinosaurs on purpose. Ow.

Barbara Stone

Yup it's me! 😀 I figured that's what it was, poor guy.

Zaira Lupidi

Thank you!

Wendy Cottingham

Thanks for watching!

I would probably teach it with myself first, from hand to hand, before incorporating another person into the mix.

BirdTricks

Yes, definitely. I recently had a flight student who bought a bird that was already missing 2-3 toes and she said it would never step up with its bad foot first. I worked with it for a couple minutes (literally) and it now steps up with its bad foot, too. It's just about proper communication and handling.

He looked pretty dumbfounded that the balloons were NOT solid structures.

BirdTricks

Z, is that you?! If this is about Monte then yes it's all about his insane lack of wing skills. I think you will see a big difference when he gets himself moving in an outdoor aviary. He is incredibly fearful of falling.

Thank you for explaining the step back information. I have been using the prying their feet off the perch method but I knew I couldn’t get away with it much longer as my bird becomes a teenager. Step back sounds much safer. I loved the story of Comet landing on the balloon arch. Poor Comet though. No wonder he doesn’t like flying 😂

Sheila Diller

This was such a great video! It came out just in time for my layover, yay! With my little birds, they step backwards, forwards, sideways so this was SO helpful to see up close how you hold a bigger bird, because it feels so different! And Tusa in the casino, omg!! 😂😂😂

Jennifer Percopo

Thank you for the advice and demos 😁

Ace Ash Ventura

for an adult bird who doesn’t know how to pass from one hand to another, would you suggest teaching it with another person first, stepping from right hand to left hand first?

Guy Goldstein K

That was great, thanks! Love looking into detail re things you both do naturally - so much to learn. And totally LOL’d re the balloon story. 😂 xC

Carrie Stewart

What a great story!! Poor Tusa he must have been freaked out!😂😂❤️

Nancie Rogers

Two of my birds will only step up to my right hand which makes changing hands very difficult. Is this something I probably need to train??

Wendy Cottingham

Loved this - and you are so right about passing the bird from one person to another. You also can feel how the bird is feeling from their feet. Thanks for the great information!

Heather J Stevenson

Along with this topic, what about death grips? For my bird I think it has to do with the lack of wing use so he holds on for dear life but is there any way this can be conditioned differently?
