Pre-Release Content: Bean and Dave

Hey guys! I made a new POWER PAUSE video and although it's long I am hoping it shows enough detail of what to do (as well as what not to do) that people can understand the concept enough to use it successfully.

I wanted to share it here on Patreon first. It will go live on my YouTube channel on October 19 at 6am PST and will not play here when I schedule it just as a heads up!

I will be having a LIVE CHAT with you all October 25th about the power pause and what you saw in this video so I hope you will all join us!

Yes, definitely. I am not sure what "sth" stands for though.

Will this method work for 'fear of sth.'? For example, my bird is afraid of hands getting close to her (except giving treats).

Honey

It wouldn't be considered calm but it would be considered "disinterested" which would count.

We’ve been starting this the last few days... reading is a little hard, I’m having a hard time telling that switch to calm. Would beak wiping be considered calm, like fluffing and looking away?

Jennifer Percopo

wow... it seems really important to be familiar with your bird before trying to start this technique... i had a lot of trouble noticing Bean's first signs most of the time. great work, guys! So happy for Dave!

Thank you SO MUCH for this!! This video just made my husband’s whole day!!! He has been giving a lot of space because he doesn’t want to be perceived as threatening, and they’re comfortable in the same room together, but this is a solid next step. And seeing Bean come so far in only 2 days just gave him the confidence he needs to start trying to work on their relationship 💜 THANK YOU!! We also plan on booking a consult very soon, we want to make sure we’re on the right track.

I remember learning this technique from one of uour videos years and years ago but you were using a cockatiel. Loved the refresher, very informative! Also great to see bean flying more 👏👏 yay bean!!

Ace Ash Ventura

Yes! This is a technique that can be used when the bird views you as +Punishment. I’m using a variation of this to teach Tucker that hands are +R and not +P and I use the Power Pause in that spot right when my hand gets the first body language or raised feathers, then pause, wait for calm, click, treat, retreat.

Carmen Griggs

I really loved the example on what NOT to do! I know this can be difficult since you don't want to blow out the trust, but it was great for the more visual learners like myself! Maybe if this cant be done with birds in the future, perhaps one of you two could pretend to be the bird and show us what not to do when we are training :)

Maggie Mitten

Wow! How informative and powerful to this non-bird person.

Beckie Child

This is just mind blowing o.o!! Gave me ideas of how to train my rescued cockatiel to be ok with scratches.

Rui Fang

Wow! Just the coolest thing to watch the bird learn that he is going to be respected. ❤️
