Trick Training Requests!

Hey patrons,

I'm going to be continuing teaching my own flock tricks and documenting it for you in our 2024 edition of our BirdTricks Tuesday series. I'm looking for any specific requests from you guys on either tricks you want to see how to train, or specific species from my flock you want to see learn a particular trick. Please leave your requests in a comment on this post so I can hopefully work towards teaching you things that will benefit your birds!

How about tricks from Do More With Your Dog. You don't have to, but they give out trick titles to other animals than just dogs. Otherwise, I mainly love tricks with props. Fetch a tissue, the mail, put money in the piggy bank, put away color coded objects, skateboard, balance on a barrel roll, pull a rope, etc.

Harness training and nail clipping please.

Toweling

So it's a trick . Lol. I didn't know. Btw , now my gcc can do flip . ✌🏼

Sofiana Kusuma

Haha it’s the retrieve: just using the mouth as the bowl and the chip as the item.

Not necessarily sure it's a good trick to train, but what's this one called?????πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ https://www.facebook.com/share/r/wScBqiYU9PHuP18N/?mibextid=D5vuiz

Harness training would be nice πŸ™‚

Are there a few tricks I can teach while the bird is in their cage? One of our birds loves my husband and viciously attacks me so I don't typically try to handle her. The few times I've asked her to touch the stick through the bars she's attacked the stick. She looks so sad when our other bird gets rewarded for treats. I've started giving her one or two treats in her pellet cup each time the other bird is finished training. I'm hoping she'll at least get the idea a treat/something positive can happen when I come by her cage.

J Matzner

Toweling please! Husbandry anything is always helpful, and the bat 😁

Michelle

A similar skill to husbandry, I believe Robin mentioned she taught her bird to "cuddle" where she is able to get her hand over it's back while she's on her hand as a quick way to secure her in an emergency. This would be a useful skill in an emergency situation.

Laura Charon

Toweling would be awesome. I have a tiny guy so my vet uses a wash cloth. I would love to see training a small obstacle course for a tiny bird.

Robyn Watts

Retrieve and play dead. With a blue throat, of course. And it occurs to me that I have a hell of a time getting good picture of my birds, they always look away. Could you train Jinx to pose for a photo? It could be adorable. πŸ₯°

Tony

Could you show some hands off tricks , beside wing stretching and wave. I want to be able to "to cue the birds from outside their cages."

Sofiana Kusuma

I'm trying to go from the wave to like a high five with my parrotlet. I think you have done this with Blue?

Wendy Cottingham

To add to the husbandry maybe even how to towel

FayK

I second this. Husbandry would be awesome

Holden Kendrick

I would also like to see something like syringe training. Specifically with Bondi or Berry.

Miriah

The bat, play dead, big wings!

Kathy Le

I’d like to learn husbandry stuff. Like eye drops, syringe meds, how to put cream on etc With more difficult birds Otherwise, I’m still waiting for the backflip trick 🀣

Li

Yes! Was just about to ask the same - grooming if needed and veterinary care/check up

Leigh-Anne Bezuidenhout

How do you get birds comfortable with toweling and nail clipping ??
