I put Jinx and Zip together 🫣

I decided to try something for the first time... here's how it went (watch the video).

Side note: My take on birds sharing aviaries or cages is that it's great to be able to do it, but you shouldn't fully rely on it because if they get into a fight, want their own space, resource guard or one becomes ill and you have to separate them, they should be used to both scenarios and be okay with both (So I try to always have enough enclosures for everyone to be separated when needed). Most of my birds I cannot house together in tight spaces (like a shared aviary) for very long periods but I can do it if necessary (depending on which ones!)

I've also found housing birds together for too long of periods can cause some hormonal responses, and then they tend to become incredibly protective over their cages/space towards even us trainers. So I try to find that balance within my flock.

What's your take on it?

I’ve housed my budgies together forever, and although I do understand the importance of that, by this point it would be mean to separate them. Their hormones don’t seem to be super linked to light (as budgie breeding seasons work a little differently) and my female budgie hasn’t gone into β€œbreeding mode” (where her cere turns brown) in a little more than a year. If they get sick… honestly I might not catch it in time anyway what with them being so small and can’t afford emergency vet care so I’m just really careful with preventative measures.

Thank you. I was contemplating even building something custom myself. Love you cages. I'll check out the website. Didn't realize you have places you use listed. Thank you!!

When we adopted Murray, our Amazon again he came with Jaxs and they have been living together for eight years at the rescue this last year they started to bicker and fight a bit when giving treats to to them I was going to look into getting them a large cage with a divider lately. Murray has been getting more aggressive and even flew at me the other day I know can get this way so I rearrange their cage a little bit and then moved it to the other side of the room, hoping it would calm him down and stop him from cage charging me.

They don’t make these anymore, but you can see all the places I use at birdtrickscages.com and choose one of those companies to make you something custom.

Where did you get the outdoor aviaries from? I want something for my "kids".

I love that they’re getting along! The flock dynamics stuff is super helpful for me, encourage. Spent yesterday rearranging everyone because gizmos being struggling recently. (Surprise, there right?)
