2024-07-09 00:45:24 +0000 UTCI am having a challenge with my birds screaming for their dinner. I have an unpredictable dinner feeding time each day (anytime between 3-5PM) but regardless screaming can begin as soon as 2:30 or 3 (or later if we are lucky) and will continue until fed. I wait for at least a few moments of quiet before feeding to prevent reinforcing the behavior, but the behavior continues so the screaming must be reinforcing enough. Their diet and weights are honed in (seasonal feeding in the morning and BT pellets for dinner). I have checked their weights prior to feeding dinner to ensure they aren't screaming from absolute hunger and weights are good. I fear that feeding them earlier before they start screaming will move their screaming up earlier each day and if they are fed too early, they will be hungry before bed again. I know screaming is a form of communication and they are communicating that they want food but it is causing my whole house distress each day. Do I have unrealistic expectations for them not to scream for dinner? (extra context: they are in a separate bird room in the house with the door closed unless we are interacting with them intentionally because we also have cats in the house.)

2024-07-07 21:16:42 +0000 UTCIm planning to adopt a bird from a nearby rescue. I have and will continue to do much research on the species and parrots in general, and have everything ready and set up should my adoption application be accepted. I’m also planning to volunteer at the rescue and get to know some of the birds they have ready for adoption. What are some questions I should ask, or anything I should do to find the right match? I want to set the bird and myself up for success :)

2024-07-05 16:35:44 +0000 UTCI am struggling with my Grey with bathing. I have tried the shower with me, the spray bottle, a casserole dish with water for her to bathe herself. I have had her outside in her aviary when its hot and a bath would feel nice, nope. I have resorted to holding my hand out with sunflower seeds while I spray her down. This I get is a short term thing. I would LOVE her to want to bathe at least occasionally. I have seen all of your videos on this and purchased the courses. I think I traumatized her with water being overly zealous wanting her to bathe. She will shake her head when she sees the spray bottle but back away. She gives HUGE bathing responses when I pull out the little water fountain bath. She pulls the top off and flaps her wings but she can't get in. So apparently she likes the "fountain type" any ideas?

2024-07-05 03:22:01 +0000 UTCWhen talking about importance of sleep, BeBop in in my office off of the living room. After dark when he goes to bed, we are not in the living room and stays pretty dark. But when we go into the kitchen and turn on the kitchen light, it does illuminate somewhat into where he is and of course because we have an open floor plan, when we talk, I’m sure he may hear us. Does he need to be in a closed off room all alone in dark or is it okay for little sounds and low light from the other room disturb him too? He still seems his cheery self the next day. I always wait until I hear him chirping before going in to say good morning and feed him.

2024-07-04 00:17:12 +0000 UTCI'll be going on a trip next year for several weeks and need to have someone watch my Amazon an Galah while I'm away. A family member usually watches them for me, but she's not able to stay at my house so normally I take them to her in 2 (pretty small) travel cages. But this trip is much longer and I hate to have them in such a small cage for that long. With me, they train every single day so neither are any good at 'hanging out' outside of their cage without 100% attention. They buzz through toys with financially devastating speed (birdtricks toys, of course!). She'll get them out throughout the day, but she doesn't have time to train with them all day long so they need room to move around and play in their cage. That's the back story for my question: do you have any suggestions on temporary cages that are small enough and light enough to transport in a regular car, but large enough to house busy parrots with enough toys to keep them busy? Ideally, something collapsable that doesn't require tools and hours to set up and take down? I can't seem to find anything suitable; I can find dog crates that might be large enough, but they don't have the grate and pull out tray to keep the cage clean. I also considered table top bird cages meant for smaller birds, but the bar spacing isn't right and the access doors are usually way too small. I know you all travel quite a bit; have you guys found anything along the way that might solve my problem? Thanks for your help!

2024-07-03 23:17:59 +0000 UTCoops and also the other question I remembered if I’m allowed to ask more than one I love having plants so I have a lot of plants in my house and I am training her to not go to them, but she still wants to go and play or eat the soil and I know that’s not necessarily good for her. Are there any safe ways to you know let her, either have soil of her own that safe or you know using moss to cover the plants soil is that safe for her? I tried to research this and there’s not a lot information and I want to give her as much nourishment and enrichment I can but I also don’t want her eating the stuff from my plant and getting sick from it and maybe I just need to get rid of some of my plants and have less none at all, but I really love plants. Thank you so much. I also live in a studio now. And is Neem oil bad for birds? If I in my plans with it at night and have them in the bathroom is it safe for her after a couple days or what do you think it’s a “” natural insecticide thank you so much much

2024-07-03 18:38:05 +0000 UTCMan I have so many but can’t think🤔🤔 I have all of your courses so it might be there but my lovebird is very hormonally bonded with me as I didn’t know at first about that and I’m disabled however I do the best I can but I’ve let it go too long. But she bites me cuz I’m not helping her with her feathers or petting” her. She screams when she’s not with me and I try to let her out but then will bite my neck and such. What’s the first thing I should do? Only let her out to train and if she bites put her back? She’s very “sassy”

2024-07-03 18:36:46 +0000 UTCMy Hahn's sharpens his claws like needles. I've tried pedicure perches and his cage perches are wood. His nails are never too long because he is always grooming them. Nail trims only save our skin for about a week. He does the same thing with his beak to keep it sharp and groomed. Have you ever encountered another bird doing this? The skin on our arms and shoulders are full of tiny bird nail cuts.

2024-07-03 18:09:19 +0000 UTCI was wondering.... I just moved into a new house. I use to let the birds out and about daily. They did chewed some of my furniture. I want with my new set up to limit the free access to more the java tree. How would you proceed? I have 4 birds (galah, 2 greys and a goffin). For now I have been letting them out under full supervision, less time out and more interaction with me.
