Which species of parrot would you be and why?

Shawnee Felts

Do you guys travel with Icee? How does she handle it?

Tony

I’ve always wondered how you protect your birds from bloodsucking vermin (ticks in particular)? I would like to allow my Eastern Rosella to forage through the grass in an enclosed area outside. She is a ground foraging species after all and (anthropomorphising alert) seems to really enjoy when I put sand on the bottom of her cage. But, lately with climate getting warmer, we have insanely more ticks, mosquitos etc. and I'm really worried that some could bite her... Thanks for your answer. Sending love from Croatia :) Deni

With the long experience you have in this pet parrot world , what is the longest time to recover an escape pet parrot ? And if by any chance you know, how the bird be able to come back to the owner ?

The Goffin’s I am currently working with is afraid of almost everything (though not so much people), and I feel like it is getting worse. I have tried desensitizing different things by just exposing him to normal household things and then, when we come across something more difficult, with the power pause, but it feels like his list of “scary” things is growing faster than the “okay” things. As an example, he screamed for 20 minutes today, as if in pain, and I could not distract him or figure out what he wanted. I noticed my husband had taken off his button down shirt and left it on the couch (in his sight line but about 30 feet away). Once I removed it, the screaming ended abruptly. (For an extra challenge, he is also a self mutilator and plucker, which worsens with stress — though lots of toys and regular training time has helped curb it somewhat.) Is there any hope?

my lovebird does that too! if I turn away or one step back she's right on my shoulder or head. she's very impatient and too smart ><

Hi!! Thank you for answering my last question. Things have been challenging since we moved to a studio, so Buddys (lovebird) sleep isn't as interruptible as before. and she wakes up wanting to bite (seeming angry although I know that could be anthromophizing). so I use part of a pecan to get her out of her backpack in the closet (sliding doors- open to air on one side plus fan near by) so she doesn't bite me. She loves pecans. I am wondering is a half of a pecan in a day too much for her? (ranges between 47-50g, I'm trying to keep it closer to 47-48, but she gets angry and is aggressive about food so less she eats the more biting happens. What steps would I take to not make her so aggressive about food. I stopped having her out with me while I get her food ready ( biting) so I prep night before so we do some training and weight before food then get her bowl and put in her cage. I put treats in her toys from you guys! but if she can't see or get it easily she won't destroy toys, or when she is heightened she does take it out on toys. I can't have her out as much because of biting. we had a good flying training this morning tho! she's learning when I say Station, or play ( for her play station). she acts like she's starving. if I do foraging and try to help her she bites. Sorry for long message. I am going to do a consult I believe, she screams all day if im not right by her or talking to someone else. except she's better this morning... THANK YOU

Jamie when you worked with Clyde how did you get him to start target training as my 2 teils are afraid of the target stick even being near them on the same table.

I have a Camelot Macaw and an African grey who recall nicely (I think, lol) i would like to teach boomerang flights. Is there a video on training this?

Michelle

I've been working on recall training with my Hahn's macaw. He's very good at recalling to me in the same room. My problem is progressing to recalling to another room. He is very Velcro and won't let me out of his sight without flying to me. How can I help him understand he needs to stay put until I call him even if he can't see me.

In the workshop, you guys noticed that Phoenix’s recall cue is his name which was accidentally taught. I don’t understand how I taught it and how can I continue to improve it?
