In the name of Blueberry...

An update as I continue to mourn the loss of the greatest budgie to ever be. ❤️‍🩹

In the name of Blueberry...

It could be in a hand cream. A care taker wouldn’t think of looking at all the ingredients in their soaps and creams. This is a issue I worry about.

DEEANNA SPIVEY

I wondered about that as well but Detka had a different caretaker at that time… we actually did have a necropsy but it didn’t yield any results other than she didn’t have anything contagious 😷 which was a relief. But no one had a direction to send me for further testing so we didn’t perform any others. 💔 However, it’s still possible. I have to figure out a gentle way to ask that. 😞

BirdTricks

I hate to even suggest this, but is there any chance that your caretakers could have accidentally introduced a source of zinc? I was also thinking about Dietka since she passed in similar circumstances and I believe you were unable to get a necropsy. I'm sorry for suggesting this and bringing up more pain, but it's been nagging at me for weeks now so I figured I'd put it out there. I'm so sorry and am sending you all many virtual hugs 💙🤍💚🧡💛

Of course, I just made a public video for this reason: https://youtu.be/d4QbEydi1FQ?si=hBRnioagfP1gOkuy

Thank you 🩵

Capri has a shop on Etsy. She makes bracelets representing the colors of the birds in their flock and also project birds that they have had.

Robin Marlin

Where do you get the bracelet?

Amy K

I would be interested in any info you have as I don’t know much about zinc other then what I’ve learned here

Amy K

I’m late posting this but I’m so sorry for your loss :(

Amy K

Another flyer suggested this as well, we have not tested any water sources.

BirdTricks

Did you guys test the water they drink? Maybe the water in the town in Utah?

Tony

I am so happy that you have found a place to feel happy and peaceful. Ironically, 2 days after you lost Blueberry I lost my Bert. She was also a parakeet that looked identical to your Blue She got spooked outside and hit the window. I also feel the guilt, but like you I gave her the best most free life a bird can have by letting my keets fly out in the lanai all day long and then they come in at night. So may hugs to you.

Angie Meyers

Yes I’d appreciate that, you can also send it as a DM here on Patreon.

I'm so glad you got the chair, it's important to have a place just for you. I almost lost my 2yr old Caique to zinc toxicity in May, my heart goes out to you because I know we had a such close call. I've obsessively learned a lot about possible sources since. I'd be happy to share the details on an email in case anything helps you figure it out. Sending you strength and healing energy ❤️💙

I ordered a zinc testing kit with 100 uses so I’m planning to just test a bunch of stuff and see.

BirdTricks

How many toys do I gotta buy so you can afford a summer home wherever your folks end up? ;)

Tony

That was four years ago so I don’t think so. It would have either been a big exposure at once or small exposures that added up to the toxicity.

That is so very sweet of you 💙 thank you!

I absolutely love your chair!! It is an amazing tribute to Blueberry! I think of you often since she passed. I have a two-fold memorial to her. Last Christmas, I purchased your "Very Berry Christmas" t-shirt. Now when I wear it during the holiday months, I will think of her and the joy she brought to all of us, but especially to you and your family. Since she passed, I bought one of Capri's Blueberry bracelets specifically as a tribute to Blueberry. (I've been wanting to pass that message onto Capri and you.) Sending you loads of love and hugs.

Robin Marlin

Love the chair ! I’m sooo sorry about blueberry. I think about her (and you guys) A LOT. The zinc poisoning will reveal itself at the right time but I’m sure it’ll go off like a massive light bulb . Enjoy your summers bc as you know — Florida summers are stifling ! Big hugs to you, your family, and the bestest Miss Blueberry

I love the chair! I think that is awesome that you have it in her honor and her memory will live on forever you give me such inspiration in my now flock of 7 budgies I never knew I would have that many as 3 are rescued they each seem to have distinct personalities but you have inspired me to dig further into their little personalities and behavior thanks to all you did with Blueberry I keep her stickers and pin close to their cage as if she’s part of my flock thank you for all you do and continue to do for parrots and individuals like me wanting to learn more 💕🦜💗💞

Lisa Morris

It's wonderful you found a comfortable and joyful way to spend more time with the birds. 🥰

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Love your new chair and glad it’s a healing thing for you. What a nice gift! Wondering if someone could make a dream catcher for you and one for Capri with Blueberry’s feathers??

Robyn Watts

So nice to make that donation to you in her name. Happy you were able to get something you can enjoy as your remember her. ❤️

Susan Engels

I feel for you. It's really strange, but I miss her too. I got used to the sound of her wings every time I watched one of the films shot inside your house, and I didn't realize how accustomed I had gotten to it until the sound wasn't there. If and when the time comes to get another budgie, you'll know when you're ready. Get the birds tested for zinc - I assume you've ruled out things like food and water dishes. But testing them might give you a clue. Let a little piece of the guilt go every day. And enjoy the EFF out of your chair. (Normally I wouldn't restrain myself or my language, but, you know, gotta present respectable.) Everyone is behind you, so don't worry about a stumble now and then - we'll catch you. We're not *just* here for the birds.

Meg Geddes

I'm so happy to see you found a place that is great for you!!❤️💙 Blueberry would be happy you have it!!

I am so sorry for your loss Jaimie, there are absolutely no words. My heart is so deeply there with you and for you. I am soooooo happy you got the chair, and believe you deserve every single bit of it. Truly. Sincerely. And no, from my experience with my own birds, you never get over this kind of loss completely. Birds are just a different kind of bond and I have a hard time explaining it to others who do not have them, and it truly is hard to explain unless you have experienced that bond. But I can say that you can and will carry that loss with you, as we do with our deepest love ones, but it does and will get easier, and we are always grateful for the chance of knowing and loving them. You always find the bright side, and your truest deepest honesty is unparalleled, and though I may have never met you, it is that that makes me follow you, trust you, and learn from you more and more every single year! What's truly amazing is how they change us into better people on this earth by how deeply we can love and care for them. I know how easier said than done this is, I have been through it believe me, but please do not be so hard on yourself and blame yourself. The toxicity could have come from any where, and there is NO ONE who could have loved that little birdy girl better! Choosing to have birds in our lives is tough, because they are very fragile creatures, and all we can do, and I know you know this, is our very best every single day, and I believe with my WHOLE heart and soul that you do just that! It is because of you, Dave, and your BirdTricks team that I have been able to care for my birds the way I have, and do MY best with them! And still, I have lost two of them, and it still devastates me even 4 years later. So I do love and feel for you, and my best goes out to you today and always!

Hugs 🤗 sweet lady!! I feel your pain. Losing our little friends is a heartbreak, for sure. When Simon passed at the vet hospital they sent us a clay disk with prints of his feet and his name on it and a bunch of feathers. It’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever received. His precious things are on our hall table with his memorial box. This morning, as I was getting dressed, I found one of his feathers in my bathroom sink. He’s been gone for months and our housekeeper had just been there yesterday morning, so it felt like he was letting me know he’s ok. Praying you keep finding signs from Blueberry too 💜💜💜

Marlene Miller

Could she have been exposed to zinc before she came to live with you? Maybe at the pet store?

Melanie Jones

I just love you! You are so real and love the birds so much! So…its a Blueberry Chair!!
