Steps on Socializing Your Parrot

Finally, a Marabou update!

I was waiting on this lovely intro Lucas made me to use on all of Landon's Marabou videos coming out so that those new to the series can get the gist of how she came to be here on Patreon.

I hope you all enjoy this video on steps to take when socializing your bird to other people. It can be tough!

Steps on Socializing Your Parrot

I guess I should back up and start all over. My parent is very aggressive and mean cannot get him to step up or go on a perch. I now coax him out of the cage and with treats, I can get him sometimes on my hand or on a perch.. I don’t know why he stays so mean, I watch his body language and back up. It’s very discouraging maybe I’ll try walking by the perch like your daughter did and offering a treat every time I walk by.. thank you for your video. It was very informative.

Videoing your sessions and watching back is a GAME CHANGER. You’ll see stuff you didn’t notice “in the moment” highly recommend!

Thank you this is a wonderful video since I’ve gotten my new Bird Freddy. I’m still trying to get her to trust me. I worked on target training and she does good until she gets a hold of the stick and breaks it so that’s my handling and keeping it far enough to where she doesn’t do that, Freddy was very much bonded to her original owner and has been known to be great with other people except for other women if her owner was in the room with her, she would actually bite her other owner. But since I’ve gotten her, she’s been very heightened. Every time I come into the room I’ve worked on giving her treats and now she’s begging for them. I’ve taught her to wave and we started training obviously, and I can bring her out and weigh her on the scale and then I put her on the T stand and I can get a few reps of target training and then she seems to get heightened and pissed off. I really need to video sessions so I can look back and see what is going on around me that is making her like this or if it’s just something we’re working through.. so again thank you for the video Landon. Keep them coming. 🩷

Fantastic! This is exactly what I am working on right now so I will practice practice practice! I am much better about requiring family members to interact with foster parrots so we retain that initial acceptance for everyone; the Goffins I have now has “picked” my husband but he will still work with me and my older daughter. It helps when they choose my hubs because then I can be the food giver and toy hanger!

I am hitting week 4 with my macaw & this provided some great insight to the initial bonding he did with me! Thank you!

Great work and great information. Gave me lots of things to do with my rescue Goffins. Thanks

Pet parrots are really not easy . Continuous efforts from the pet owners are required, to introduce the birds to new things, in order to have a well desensitized and a little bit more social pet birds. My quaker shrieks , whenever there are guests in the house.
