Do you have any tips on preserving outdoor aviarys like preventing rust or removing rust safely?

2024-10-20 09:17:07 +0000 UTCI have a baby Amazon (I know, I know) who is not even 3 months old & I have initiated the early training. She is incredibly responsive & pretty easy to teach. The “problem” is her running game on me & how to fix it. She currently understands that if she flies to me & lands on my hand, she gets a pine nut. The game: when we’re not practicing this (me sitting in my chair) she’ll climb to my hand, look up & ask ‘huh’? She then promptly flies in a huge circle, lands perfectly on my hand, & does the baby churtle for food. What do I do with this?

2024-10-16 16:21:50 +0000 UTCAviary question! How much does smoke outside affect the parrots? I have a neighbor that burns items at least once a week, sometimes more frequently. Currently I only take the birds out with me when supervised and I avoid days that I see the smoke. But we are working on getting an aviary that the birds could be out in more frequently unsupervised. How concerned should I be about smoke and their respiratory system if they happen to start a burn while the birds are outside?

2024-10-13 18:11:08 +0000 UTCDuring the Animalcon last year, you said that the most desensitized parrot you've ever seen is a parrot that belong to a celebrity, who took the parrot everywhere with him/her. I am planning to do this. Is there there any precaution I should take ? What would be the parrot reactions to new people / place ? When I tried to do this with my gcc , she landed on the head and pulled out a hairpin from the hair of a technician visiting our house. I don't want the bird to be labelled as something negative.

2024-10-12 01:14:33 +0000 UTCWith the fall and winter months coming up, what are some preparations you would recommend? I live in the PNW and we often lose power during Jan-Feb usually due to ice storms. We're looking at getting a generator but what are some emergency readiness you would recommend? First year with my Goffins and I want to make sure he's safe during potential storms.

2024-10-09 23:16:16 +0000 UTCOk just got my vet visit today for all my flock…. My older (31y) galah need to gain a bit of weight (10-15g)and my goffin (18y) needs to loose about 10-12g ….. how do I proceed doing it gradually so they are not under feed or over feed…. My galah doesn’t finish his meal most time…. How can I encourage him to eat more of the good stuff…..We did blood work and full body xray to make sure all is good but he came out great on his physical…. My goffin, well… lol! I have been feeding a little too much, will reduce, but not sure how to reduce at the time… watched the perfect portion video again, but I feel its a bit of a different situation. Also second question…. Been working on my congo grey recalling on the “places” I don’t want her on. She is doing great! But I feel she is going there now to recall and have a treat! She has moments were she is obsessed with the “wrong” place…… I have recall once, give a treat and put her in her cage. Too smart this congo! Lol! She definitely outsmarted me! Today I tried to gave her a foraging ball on the java tree to encourage her to stop going to the forbidden place! Any ideas?

2024-10-05 04:19:30 +0000 UTCHey - Mom of Mr Mean and Hateful…hehe - how do you know the cause of the eye pinning if they do it often. Is he mad? Could he actually be heightened all the time? Do I not talk to him to see if that changes him? It seems mostly around food - doesn’t matter what it is - including treats - so much that I am nervous just to train him…yes have a consult scheduled on the 12th

2024-10-04 17:24:19 +0000 UTC(She eats your SFS and pellets-pecans or millet for treats) I live in a studio now, so my lovebird Buddy she sleeps in her backpack in the closet (sliding doors one door is off because of accessibility) so it stays dark but she’s right next to the bathroom, and when she hears me getting up she starts chirping. I’ve been ignoring her sometimes when it’s still really early for her like 6/7am. She usually goes to bed at 7/8pm sometimes later on accident and I try to do my best to be quiet. I know this isn’t ideal. I usually get me and my dog out so he can potty and then it’s quiet for her to sleep. But when I’ve slept in and she still technically needs another hour but she chirps at me should I get her up then or wait till her actual “wake up time”? She also gets very aggressive I don’t have the backpack cover over her she’s just near my dresses. In general she is sometimes and right so so hungry she bites me, she’ll come to my hand and just start biting my fingers. Unless I give her a small pecan and then we do weight and some training. But she’s very aggressive with her food or if I’m trying to help her forage. How do I make her less food aggressive?… I don’t feed her dinner in her backpack cuz I feel bad having her in there longer than sleepy time. Are the biggest factors not having her know I feed her?.. and she yells at dinner time😅😅 Trying to have her not be food aggressive and make sure she sleeps better and doesn’t wake up “mad” at me. I don’t know if it’s nesting behavior or just hunger.

2024-10-04 17:08:08 +0000 UTCGood Morning, What is the best "pet sitting" care I an offer my green cheek Conure Kimber when I travel. We are only gone 4 days max. Currently we put her in her aviary which is a full room on our home with her sleeping cage with the cage door open with plenty of food and water. She as a perch by the window. I have my pet sitter check on her once a day and we have a camera in the room to check on her too. We even talk to her though the camera. The pet sitter more checks on her well being not socially interacts with her or even enters the aviary. We would like to be gone longer (week max) but don't know if this is the best set up for her.
