Training Navi for finding birds...
Added 2025-02-04 23:00:02 +0000 UTCHere's some recent training sessions with our new vizsla pup Navi and her trainer, Penny Jo. This shows the progression of her standing still, watching, smelling and pointing in the direction of the pigeon that was released (even moving out of the way of the path of the bird.)
The cool thing about this is that she is not chasing or jumping at the birds. Penny Jo is working hard to condition Navi not to flush or chase. We just want her to keep eyes. We went through in detail how we hope to have this evolve on a recent live if you were there for it.
Maybe we will touch on it again in the near future.
Note: This is a homing pigeon that was released so it simply flew back to the aviary on the property.

Penny Jo wasn't supposed to throw it right at her in her path (that was by accident) but she shows noooooo fear of birds in general and quickly went to her job so based on body language and past history is how it was assessed as moving out of the way.
