Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Episode 16 Reaction

That episode sure went by fast. The family squabble wasn't what I thought it was going to be, but I am still happy to see said scene unfold. I don't take either side, but rather understand where both are coming from. I give more of my thoughts in the video. Thanks everyone!

The writing is so good, I agree. I haven't discussed a situation anime this much since AoT S4.

Its such great writing where nobody is right or wrong but at the same time both are wrong and right. And I can't wait for the next episode because it will very likely be on par with this one in quality of writing. There's no way fpr Rudy to have known other people got teleported. He was in the center of it all and for all he knows at most the town of Roa got teleported. I'd say the information about the mana disaster only started circulating on the demon continent when Roxy got there but Rudy left it when she arrived so he couldnt have known and then he got kidnapped before getting Pauls message. The next eps name is "Reunion"

Exactly. That's my point. I mention the taking sides thing because I know for a fact people will make it into that. They did it with Attack on Titan with similar realistic complex situations. Sounds like we are on the same page. Neither should have spoken to each other the way they did but alas emotions and stress escalated the conversation too far. :( I also feel his reincarnation dynamic dampens his family bond to them, but that's no excuse. He for sure was being selfish. We all know Rudy isn't a great person, after all.

It’s not about taking side. As either of them have their points and they were both rude. But the fact that Rudy didn’t think of his family whatsoever through out the journey is very selfish and aloof. Tho he had Eris to protect and all as priorit, but if it was anybody else, gone missing in a foreign land, first thing you would think of is getting back to your family and closed ones. So the fact that he didn’t even say “I will help you go back and I can see my family too etc” means he didn’t even think of them as family. Doesn’t matter if Paul was a “bad man” (he shouldn’t be the one to judge anyways), but his mother, maid and sisters gave him nothing but love for years. So for him to never consider looking or asking around even as a secondary mission while having multiple chances but enjoying the adventure way more, is the point why he’s in the wrong. Plus he’s an adult at heart, he should treasure the connection with people giving unconditional love even more so. And he knows it, that’s why he’s so upset and launched out as a defense mechanism. Both of them are wrong about their communication method tho. So ya.
