Since you clearly didn't know an Arachne is a sorta spider centaur upper body of a human usually female due to its Greek roots and the lower body of a spider. kumoko actually explained it in the first episode she mentions it.

2021-11-02 19:41:21 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite episodes of the season with episodes 9 and 23 (I think it's this 3 episodes I rewatched the most, specially episode 9). If you wonder why Shun's storyarc finishes out of nowhere, it's because his story finishes on this huge cliffhanger in the Light Novel, the battle against the Elves is far from over yet, but their role on this battle is over. I highly suggest you to read the Light Novel, the manga is the worst adaptation and is very slow.

The manga completely eliminates the human half of the story and only follows Kumo. Not sure if you're a big LN reader, but that is really where this story shines. You follow many of the human reincarnations from their childhoods, as well as lots more detail on Kumo's story.
