Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 18 Reaction

Going with that, the symbolism at the end of Gyutaro’s flashback it’s not giving Ume the chance to go to heaven, which people might interpret into it if they look at it from a Christian POV. Instead, it’s Gyutaro trying to take both of their Karma onto himself, so that Ume could move on and be reincarnated right away instead of having to “serve her time”. But Ume decided to stay by his side and properly shoulder her own Karma alongside Gyutaro.

The Illness there Mother had was Syphilis (The Kanji with which Ume is written is 梅, while Syphilis (Baidoku) is written with 梅毒), whats more, when Ume was born, their mother hated her due to her hair color and eyes (and because she was Jealous of her Daughter because she was more beautiful) and would try and kill her. One day, their mother tried to cut Ume’s hair off with a razor, but Gyutaro became enraged and went on a rampage, leading her to distance herself from her children. Also, Hell in Demon Slayer is different from what i heard compared to the Christianity Type of Hell, since its based on the Buddhism Hell called Naraka. A Naraka differs from the hell of Christianity in two respects: firstly, beings are not sent to Naraka as the result of a divine judgment or punishment; and secondly, the length of a being's stay in a Naraka is not eternal, though it is usually incomprehensibly long, from hundreds of millions to sextillions of years. A being is brought into a Naraka as a direct result of its accumulated actions (karma) and resides there for a finite period of time until that karma has achieved its full result. After its karma is used up, it will be reborn in one of the higher worlds as the result of karma that had not yet ripened.
