Bungo Stray Dogs Episode 12 Reaction

The season 1 finale was INTENSE to say the least. The reveal of the Port Mafia boss at the end was executed so damn well too! Who else is HYPE for S2?! I'll be trying my best to be caught up in time for S4 in January. ;) Thanks dudes.

Sounds like that might be where raggedy Anne comes from? So is the Lucy in the show Canadian too? I also like that Francis is more like Gatsby than the author himself. We all know how Gatsby was in the book. ;) The reveal of the Mafia's leader was so damn good. Couldn't have been done better imo.

Lucy Maud Montgomery (actually a Canadian author, so the Guild is presumably recruiting from the whole continent and not just the USA itself), author of Anne of Green Gables. Her gift's name is a bit of a deliberate corruption of the title (this happens in a few places, where a word or two is deliberately changed, or a gift is named after a piece of text from a work instead of a title). The book is about a red-haired, freckled girl named Anne who hates her appearance, and at one points fails to dye her red hair to make it black, turning it green instead. I'm not super familiar with it beyond the absolute basics and a detail or too though, it's not a book I've actually read yet. This finale is really damn good considering there isn't a lot of time to build up to what happens in it, but seeing what just a Guild APPRENTICE is capable of, meeting Francis, Atsushi and Tanizaki's insanely clutch win, and the build up to Mori's reveal are all completely badass. You gotta love it when some seemingly random apparently civilian guy starts giving you advice on a gifted-vs-gifted battle in terms of game theory. I like the way this episode balances showing that the Guild is a serious threat to both organizations but also gives us a glimpse at how potentially dangerous the Port Mafia still is, with Mori able to pretty much shut Lucy down entirely just by dropping the facade a bit and letting her see his malice and bloodlust toward her. He's a scary guy in general, but Lucy is REALLY lucky that she managed to leave alive despite messing with Elise (who, if we take her dialogue at face value, let herself be captured on purpose just to mess with Mori in that kind of childishly cruel way, which... raises a lot of questions about Elise herself, since it implies that Lucy wouldn't have been able to capture her if Elise hadn't wanted her to). And we have Francis, who is... scary in a completely different way, and generally just an incredibly well done rendition of Gatsby more than a rendition of F. Scott Fitzgerald himself. I don't have much to say there because season 2 will say it for me, but IMO he definitely does not disappoint as a villain or just as a character in general. I also really love the episode title, which is part of the very last line from The Great Gatsby - "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
