No offense, but the "the cops would know" seems to be a nice legend the show runners came up with. It's been a while and I forgot most of the science, but I worked in a chemistry laboratory for 6 years. I can tell you, they just don't show anything somebody could reproduce and be identifiable as "the breaking bad-recipe". There is no recipe, cause that would need to contain exact amount of all used chemicals, all the steps, temperatures, timings etc. In theory (!) they could have even cooked meth and filmed it, and nobody would be able to reproduce it. ;) But they did a pretty good job showing how in general you would cook some orangic chemistry recipe, at least more realistic than in a lot of other movies.
