I always thought of the first six episodes as a sort of training arc for Lloyd. In Episode 2 he figured out Spinjitzu. Episode 3 he learned how to use his Elemental Powers. Episode 4 he learned how to fly the Ultra Dragon. And Episode 5 made him older which increased his power significantly.
