Ohhhhh! It makes sense now! Thanks for that π i genuinely thought they were just picking on a random celebrity π€£ i thought maybe Stephen Fry had been arrested or something? Or had shows on at the same place? I didnt think itd be something like that! I were only a baby at the time, no wonder I never heard of it π²

2025-07-22 21:43:22 +0000 UTCIn early 1995, Stephen Fry and Rik Mayall were appearing together in a play in the West End called Cell Mates (also set in prison). Not long into the run, Stephen Fry disappeared and turned up a few weeks later in Belgium, having had a nervous breakdown. At the time this was recorded he had still not fully returned to work (his comeback would be in The Thin Blue Line Christmas Special that December) so would still have been fresh in people's minds.

Its just perfect, like they were following a tick box list π they're amazing, and its an absolute joy to experience it this way and share it with you all! π What happened with Stephen Fry? π I didnt fully get it, i just thought it came out really funny π Oh wow I guessed the right one next, that's good! Oh does it? Ah wow! I'll bear that in mind when I get around to starting it π Thanks again for watching π

2025-07-22 21:14:11 +0000 UTCExcellent once again. This live show encapsulates everything great about this pair - the physicality, the word play, the world building. The fight early on in this part shows two craftsmen at the peak of their powers. What more can be said? I was worried you might not grasp the significance of the Stephen Fry reference that got such a huge reaction, as that had been quite a huge news story back in 1995, but you seemed to. Yes, Hooligan's Island next, a show that holds a very special place in my heart, but more on that anon.
