2022-12-22 17:22:43 +0000 UTCThis is a Chinese genre called 'Wuxia' which is basically a superhero story set in historical times. The idea is that ancient kung fu had techniques that were so impressive and secret that they were never passed on to modern times, so they seem like magic. Characters fly, balance on sword tips, run up walls, and all kinds of fantastical stuff. Wuxia movies are a lot of fun but can also be very deep and moving like this one. I recommend Jet Li's 'Hero' as another great example. 'Kung Fu Panda' was a wuxia movie too.
