This is one of my favorites. Like the creepy torture writer says, you get to meet the real people when under stress. Mal is tough as nails. Zoe is an unflappable bad ass. Wash is not that strong unless he's at the controls of a ship, then he's amazing. River is... well, we'll find out more about River. Being "terse" is when you say only what's necessary. "How was your day, dear?" "Fine." My favorite part was when Zoe says, "No, this is something the captain has to do himself." "No it's not!" "Oh!" Bang bang bang.
