We like to use Ulster Protestants or Ulster Scots. Which I think is much better than Scots Irish as I think most would resent greatly the implication that we were in any way Irish.

Fancy is 18, she could get a legitimate job, presumably; she’s not underage. Pawn the engraved locket first!! The mother isn’t her pimp (which would’ve brought steady money in), she just sends her to some bigwig men; I assume she gets some money in exchange, because why would an of-age person go along with this otherwise?? but the mom dies and the baby is put into foster care (the “welfare people”, so there is some social net in their town!!) so I don’t know how much of a payday the mom got in the exchange. There is a whole subset of “feminist” country anthems - “Independence Day”, “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” - where I beg the women to think just a little bit more to get out of their predicament. But they sure are fun to sing along to!
