2024-10-13 15:50:03 +0000 UTCI hate to be the HBD disrespecter on this question, but I think the urban/rural explanation for black people not swimming works better. I grew up and live in a small city in a very rural area in the South. We have a youth center in the bad part of town with a pool, and the black people here love to swim in that pool. I had a black friend in high school who worked as a life guard for that pool every summer. I think in rural areas, swimming is just our preferred way to cool off in the heat, simple as.

One in particular freaked the fuck out, went ape shit with panic, pulling the instructors under etc. Bog is spot on about Milton. Reminds me of Frederic which also had that dry air incursion that "weakened" it. The downside is those drier outer bands will spin up tornados like crazy, atypical of hurricanes.
