2024-10-30 23:04:41 +0000 UTCAbout rewarding officers - did you see Bannon just got out of prison. https://x.com/bannons_warroom/status/1851280849682960706?s=46 I’m also thinking of that Irish general, Michael Flynn who lost a big job and went to prison. Probably he should give some work to Erik Prince. The Wall Street guys, Bill Ackman, Dimon, Schartzmann, Singer, Lutznick & co probably happy with just supporting Israel, and cracking down on college pro-Palestine groups.

2024-10-29 16:16:57 +0000 UTCThe SSRI overuse and the legal weed issue have a common thread: meaningless lives. Liberal society creates young people who lack any purpose, and those young people cope with that by “checking out”, either by staying so high they can barely function or they pharmaceutically lobotomize themselves. When these copes stop working, they have to jump over to more extreme measures.

2024-10-28 07:28:18 +0000 UTCBog, the guy with the S'ing the D patronage job is a different species from the knight in fancy armour patronage job. The taxpayers knew fancier armour created more stability at home by signaling ransom if nothing else. Taxes were theoreticaly buying a public good. That is not the case in almost any patronage today.

2024-10-26 16:37:06 +0000 UTCHere’s a link to the story about how, in the late 1990’s, Elon Musk was driving his McLaren F1 and showing off for his passenger, Peter Theil. He crashed and totaled the car, which had a sticker price of over $1m at the time. Production run was 106 cars. McLaren’s 2026 version of the F1 is called the W1: 1258 hp, 4.0L v8 + electric, $2.1m, 399 car production run, 0-60 in 2.6s. Much better acceleration than the F1 (0-60 in 3.2s). Handling is not even in the same category. Competition is the 2026 Ferrari F80: 1184 hp, 3.0 v6 + electric, $3.1m, 799 car run, 0-60 in 2.2s. Pretty sure all cars of both models are already sold out. Late empire fails at a lot, but the toys-for-rich-guys category has never been more impressive. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/elon-musk-spent-1-million-213715650.html
