February 2023 Comic: Yellow Orb Weaver

Better late than never! No poll for this month's comic (since I just set it up,) so I chose a spider. Specifically the yellow orb weaver!

I included a version without the text, because it may or may not be a bit intrusive to the artwork. I also included some alternate lineart for the bottom left panel. I considered having her teeth get absorbed into the mandibles, but it didn't seem biologically accurate. Plus it was a bit more visually unsettling than necessary. Spiders are already unsettling enough for some people, so I went with teeth scattered on the ground instead. Which is maybe only marginally less unsettling.

I didn't do any studies for this because I wanted to post a comic sooner rather than later, but now I kinda wanna study those cute little paws that spiders have. Spiders are one of my favorite animals, but their anatomy is so difficult to work with! It's also tough to find good anatomical references of itsy bitsy creatures.

In the future I want to be able to share more research for future monthly comics. Which given the current results of the polls, should be very interesting!
