Some 'baras. They're so shaped.
I didn't find a tooon of interesting capybara facts that aren't really common knowledge about them, but here are a couple:
- They are most closely related to guinea pigs.
- Their typical group size is 10-20 individuals, but groups as big as 100 have been seen.
- It's thought that their chill behavior is because they feel safe in such a large group, and they have dedicated individuals on the lookout for predators.
- They can sleep underwater, leaving just their noses out. Kind of like a crocodile. Maybe that's why their heads are such a perfect rectangle? Come to think of it, crocodiles also end up being perches for small birds and things. Capybaras are kind of like fluffy little crocodiles
- They're actually pretty fast. They can run up to 22 mph
- They eat their own poop. It's good for them
- They are one of the few mammals, including humans, who cannot produce their own vitamin C and can therefore get scurvy. Yaargh!
- They would make great pets if it didn't make them so sad. ): Unless you can buy 15 other capybaras, don't keep one. Also, buy your guinea pig some friends, because guinea pigs want to live in herds.
- There's a small population of capybaras in Florida, for some reason. They are not native to Florida.
