the gap isn't. annies age is. 40 dating 28 is not at all the same as 30 dating 18. 18 is still a child and the manipulative power dynamics there are gross.

2021-12-31 10:42:04 +0000 UTCI mean I disagree, 'being mature for their age' is bad because it's almost always used to take advantage of the person. 'They can handle more so we heap extra work on them,' 'they're mature so that makes it okay to date them' etc. It is still wrong and gross. Even if that wasn't the case Annie is not mature for her age, she's smart, takes on a lot of responsibility, and hangs around people who are extremely immature which makes people think she's more mature than her age would entail, she's also emotionally and socially stunted, a recovering addict, and lacks any experience that does matter in growing up. Not to mention that if the partner who is 14 years older than their younger partner is learning more lessons from from their younger partner, than they are not mature enough to be in that relationships

2021-12-30 04:35:19 +0000 UTCI feel the opposite lol, I get frustrated when the show constantly makes jokes at how creepy the age difference is and uses it to push them apart because it doesn't seem like a big deal for me. I get that when analyzing characters and situations on tv you want to assume a realistic standard, and I think in real life "But she's really mature for her age" is a red flag because it's often not true, but... In this case, Annie kind of is. Lol. Like both she and Jeff teach each other things pretty equally, he usually ends up learning more lessons from her than vice-versa. It's very clear Jeff wasn't being predatory and feels reluctant about the whole thing too

2021-12-29 21:40:52 +0000 UTCAs Abi said, sometimes age gaps aren't as important as the black/white way some people view it. My Aunt and Uncle are 14 years apart and have been together for 35 years. With Jeff and Annie, they are both teaching each other in different ways... she's smarter and more responsible than him, but he's got the experience and earned cynicism. This isn't a creepy older guy taking advantage of a weak minded young girl... this is 2 friends that happen to be in different part of their lives, who seem to have accidentally grown some feelings for each other. All that being said..... yeaaaaaa still feels a little weird lmao but I buy it... it feels natural imo.

2021-12-29 20:08:24 +0000 UTCI'm not sure why but I always enjoyed Annie's and Jeff's relationship - it might help that whilst Alison Brie is actually the same age as Gillian Jacobs in real life. I think I also liked it because it somehow felt weirdly natural and realistic and when Jeff (most importantly imo) stopped trying to sleep with Britta, she no longer was the cliche morally right love interest and grew into one of my favourite characters

2021-12-29 19:04:29 +0000 UTCIt's weird but it makes sense in a way since Jeff is supposed to be an unlikable asshole that gets away with it by being charming as well as an over exaggerated version of Dan Harmon. Dan also seems to date younger women than him so that's probably where this whole thing came from. This was also around the time some studio execs gave them feedback that Jeff was an asshole and according to some commentary I've seen they just decided to lean in heavily to that and all the feedback about what they hated just to spite the suits lol

2021-12-29 14:23:12 +0000 UTChonestly, annie and Jeff was one of the few things I actually hated about the show. yeah there's not a huge age difference in the actors, but with the characters Jeff is almost twice annie's age and I can't get around that even if I thought they would be good together

2021-12-29 12:26:55 +0000 UTCHey just so you guys know for the future, episode 2x14 "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" was removed from Netflix and Hulu even though it is highly considered to be one of the best episodes of the show by fans and critics. It would be a shame for you guys to miss out on the reaction to it, so you may want to find another way of watching in advance. Just a heads up.
